Whoa whoa whoa. @Bluford Craig I love it but... That four box COTS on the Conrail car makes it a very rare car.

Adding a bunch of those to the fleet wouldn't make a lot of sense.

Can I ask you to do the older two box version?

The four box COTS were applied by Conrail from 07/81 until at least 09/82.  HCS was actively renewing gondola cars during that time frame.  Probably not with the urgency of the previous five years, but still doing it steadily.  I think you can justify a few.  The inspiration for this release is on The CRHS website:

FWIW, from my 04/81 ORER, only 531806 is listed.  From my 07/82 ORER, 531859, 531865, 531866, 531868 and 531871 are listed.  That would mean those five numbers most likely had the four part COTS.  I am liking this Conrail release more and more.

Knowing Craig, I am sure the older two box version are on the list to do.  Thanks.

This release is really loaded with gondolas I need and want.  The Conrail cars are a must since that is my home road.  The Bessemer cars also qualify as a must.  BLE gondolas were a regular on Conrail hauling products from US Steel facilities (Mon valley plants served by the Union RR and interchanged with Conrail) to far flung locations.  I will most likely get a few EJE cars as they would be hauling US Steel products from the USS Gary Works to eastern locations.  They were a regular along with the BLE gondolas on Conrail train PIMO (Conway, PA to Morrisville, PA) hauling semi finished coils from USS Gary Works and USS Mon Valley Works to the USS Fairless Works.  That train was a treat to see working its way east on the Pittsburgh Line, particularly up the West Slope.  Great road name selection Craig.  Thank you.

This is welcome news. The dented gondolas are just wonderful. The look and run great. I’m going to take a hit in this run, but they will move some lesser rolling stock into the “for sale” bin.

@Bluford Craig a lightly dented USRA 2-bay hopper could be quite the follow-up. Just sayin’ -

All those dents from coal? Gons get dented from metal at scrap yards.

Jeff nailed it. We did do the 2-box con-stencils on the first run of Conrail gons and we will revisit that era again down the road. Also thanks to Jeff for providing photos of the B&LE cars.
