I've been to Lewiston numerous times, always going through to somewhere else.  Something about the Columbia Plateau basalt hills is distinctive, but I'm not sure just what it is.  The colors match much of southern California, but it's just different.  I grew up in Pasco, WA, so have seen a lot of basalt and dry grass.
