A report in JAM* convention held in Tokyo, Japan this weekend as well as the last year.
(* Japan Association of Model railroading)

Unfortunately the newest Garrat using 6 to 7 pcs of Kato D51 (2-8-2) mechanism did not run in this convention due to out of order and needs some repair/adjustments.

Here is a movie of an older N scale work by Mr. Tohnishi built in 2021; Garratt using 4 pcs of Kato D51 mechanism plus brass scratch built upper body by him.
More tenders than the last year!
It pulled 150+ pcs of tenders and MTL cars at the convention, and would pull 200+ cars according to his design/calculation.

I'm not on Facebook but I have seen the videos when you posted links here earlier. I always find Mr. Tohnishi's scratchbuilt locomotives fascinating. He is an excellent modeler!  I'm curious if he is planning on using Kato's Big Boy mechanism to make some scratchbuild locomotive?

Thanks for your appreciation to Mr. Tohnishi.  I asked him if he has a plan of applying Kato Big Boy mechanism to his future engine(s).

G01 prepares to depart Carrollton northbound after working the yard. Power for G67 sits on the house track. The lead unit on G01 is a Genesis SD70M from the first run that was done with the Phase 2 cab and flared radiators. This week, I installed a Decoder Buddy, Loksound V5, LEDs, and weathered it.

I've weathered seven locomotives in the past five weeks so I think it's time for a break. This weekend, I'm starting work on the scenery north from Carrollton to Felton.

During the past week I have been working on the third step in my track painting, which is a drybrush of flat white to highlight the raised detail on the ties:






I have also made good progress on my museum train tank cars, prepping the tank bodies for detail parts and installing weights prior to closing up the tanks:






I then assembled the tanks.  On the water car I installed grab irons, safety rail (bent from .010" wire), dome platform on right side, and top handrails (also bent from .010" wire):




On the fuel oil car I installed the Atlas grab irons and the 3D printed dome.  The Atlas safety rail warped rather badly so I have to order a replacement from Atlas:




I can now add the tanks to their underframes and then install the remaining details.

I filled up Hagerstown yard last night.  Holds roughly 90 cars depending on length.  Thinking eventually that might not be big enough once 2nd deck gets built

Took advantage of the wonderful weather to do some trackwork outside. Got most of the way through this five turnout complex. I like to leave rail in as long a piece as I can. I find it helps to flow better.

I have automated my flood loader!  Now I can take a nap while the train loads. 

This uses an Azatrax infrared detector configured for across-the-tracks detection and minimum delay, and a non-latching DPDT relay.  When a hopper blocks the beam the relay activates and switches the tortoise so that the loader dumps.  When the gap between the hoppers is at the beam the relay switches off, reversing the tortoise so the upper bin reloads.  Previously I had the throw a switch to dump and to reload.  So far I've remembered to shut it off so coal doesn't dump on the next loco that comes thru.

Also took the opportunity to remove the back wall duct work for the HEPA filter that I used when I loaded real coal.

I was surprised at how precise the detector is.  If I set the emitter and detector near the bottom of the hoppers, the vertical support struts under the hopper ends switched it on momentarily.  I used the MRD1-V to remove as much delay as possible, and the MRAPR-12v DPDT Relay.

[N Scale Train Boy]

Made some good progress on my scratch build of the Hopewell Depot in N scale last night. Got the first window installed, finished cutting the last pieces for the walls, and got some paint on the building! This will be a key piece of my 3 (possibly 4) T-Trak Module recreation of Hopewell Junction NY!
