No bias there, huh?  ;)

But I agree. It's on my list. Team that up with a 3900-series SD9 (good luck finding one!) and a few well-worn 50' boxcars plus two or three beer cars, and you'd have the local that served my home town ca. 1970.

Where in the heck could that be? The palm trees have me totally baffled. 3900s and 7900s were the meat-and-potatoes of the LA-Bakersfield pool in the late '60s. San Fernando Valley, maybe?

Before your edit I had a forehead slap, MP477 is Glendale, which is not very far from the southern terminus of the LA-Bakersfield district, Taylor Yard. Yeah, there were palm trees around the station, and the mention of "smog" pins it to the San Fernando Valley. There were palm trees in Bakersfield, but the desert and mountains in between were not hospitable for palms.

That was "home" stomping grounds, which is what piqued my curiosity.
