Anybody heard from @Lenny53 ? He has missed two weeks in a row. Just a little concerned.

On Tuesday June 3rd the Doctor told me I had a heart attack a couple of days prior and sent me for an angiogram the next day which showed massive blockages in three major arteries which then lead to open heart surgery for a triple bypass. Oh whooptee doodletidoo.  Anyway, I should be good to go to keep racking the kliks on the old odometer.

Good to hear to they caught it in time and everything is back to normal.

Curious how did the docs (or you) know you had a heart attach a few days prior?  Other symptoms?  Coincidence?

Routine blood test on any report of chest pain in mature individuals. There are marker proteins (troponin I and T) that result from heart muscle damage. The levels of these proteins are tell-tales of both the cardiac event and elapsed time since occurrence.

My event was transient chest pain that resolved on a vacation, but follow-up with doc when we got home. She took a draw. We were dining at a local Mex restaurant, and mid-margarita I get a call from her nurse, "Go to the ER. NOW!" Didn't get to finish my drink.

A combination of me relating the symptoms in detail to the doctor, blood tests, and a portable ultra sound of the heart which showed one wall of my heart was 'lazy.'

Why is it that they test you for all sorts of crap, but when it comes to your heart they wait till something is wrong to test?

Because the conditions (troponin levels) they test for are short-lived. It's not like A1C or a whole bunch of the other stuff, which are indicators of overall condition and are watched for trends rather than acute conditions.

Can't a calcium test show blockages?

I don't think so. Besides, arterial plaque is a build-up of fats (cholesterol). Only way (I know of) to diagnose blockages is with an angiogram or similar procedure.

But wadda I know? I'm just a victim patient who's had entirely too many of these discussions with cardiologists.

Wow, these are all good info to know!!!!!   :o :o :o

I had a few "chest pains" in the past which they said attributed to heart burn.  They were painful and I didn't believe them.  But heart burn meds seem to mediate them which I think is key.  At this point I believe them as I've had so many of these on and off that I should be dead if they were indeed heart attacks.   :D

They NEVER once did a blood draw!

What I thought was heart burn turned out to angina after I took a stress test.

Glad you’re doing okay, @Lenny53.

I get a call from her nurse, "Go to the ER. NOW!" Didn't get to finish my drink.

You didn’t ask for a “to-go cup”?  :D  I’m glad that you’re still with us, too, @C855B!
