Another P70fR, this one a Bachmann heavyweight. KD balloon roof and 2D-P5 trucks!

Not sure you'd want to get a F31 from them.  Look at their finished model on the website

https://viceheadresinworks.com/products/n-scale-f31-container-car

I briefly looked at some of the stuff they had on their table, too many items were noticeably warped.

I don't understand this; there's no way they can't notice how warped these are.  Why would someone go through all the effort of painting and decalling something so clearly messed up?  Beyond that, why would they use it for their advertising?

Can we stop using my product page to discuss, and certainly not disparage other makers work or products.  I would greatly appreciate it, and thanks in advance!

Here is the near final prototype model. Only a few more details to work out. Here are some new views. The coupler is an MT 905 and the brake wheel is printed! The trucks are mixed intentionally, as are the doors.

John, that looks fantastic. And I would never disparage the great work done by Doug and Claus at Hell Gate Models, but resin just won't get you to the crispness you've achieved with 3D printing.

Of course I'm in for 2 with portholes. I have some of your messenger service vents at the ready.

Now on to the R50b!

@Mark5 The kit will be PRR specific, but I can offer different doors separately.  Do you have any drawings of them?

It's ok, I can make my own doors if needed - I would be modeling the "modernized" doors anyway as shown in one of the links in my earlier post.

Here's the as built:

John:  Looks great.  My only comment at this point is that the roof seems to overhang the car sides a bit more than it should.  Did you say the roof is a separate part?  Does it need to be?  I know you may be planning a clerestory version, but why not just make one piece for each type and have a tighter fit for the roof?  Thanks for your work!

John::  This photo shows the roof overhang that I think is too large.

Yes it needs to be separate for several reasons:

-The biggest being printing. Printing a bathtub will only hold resin with no way to escape.
-The doors can slide and need a way to drop them in.
-It will be easier to paint the model- no taping (customer request above).
-The messenger vents have drill dimples inside that would be impossible to drill up through the shell.
-The roof is removeable so if you wanted to swap from arch to clerestory, its an easy job.

I might be able to adjust this but I am worried that the seam gaps may be more visible but I have a very robust alignment and snap.  I'll run a test.

John:  Understood. Add to your list of reasons for a separate roof: it will allow a light sanding of the edge if the overhang looks excessive.

I have a revised roof in the works, but here is a painted and decaled B60b Messenger kit with the original roof. Only thing left is to add the grab holes in CAD and test the revised roof so @dougnelson can be happy.
