The last Climax I posted. Uploaded the frame to Sculpteo and it was only $30 to have it printed and cast in brass. I would probably do the rear tank in brass as well since it is right over the drive and also supports it. The rest I can print myself.

Also thinking about casting front sideframes in brass and using a resin bolster so I can pickup power.

That is very reasonable for lost wax casting.  It will be interesting to see the product.

So I designed truck side frames to cast in brass, but then decided to use AZL GP7 wheels and redrew the truck for them.

I scaled everything up 1% as per Tom Knapp (who also models in Nn3)

8 side frames in brass $34.96
2 rear tanks $34.96
2 frames $62.22
Items $132.14
handling $6.61
shipping  $10.00  (says I will get them on July 8th (it is June 15th right now))
Total $148.75

Fingers crossed they come out good

I got the 2 houses on the hill mounted with foundations.


And all the building plugs so they can be removable.


Maybe now I can start some scenery while I wait for brass parts.

Sculpteo emailed about my Climax truck side frames being too thin. Tom told me to just have them "print it anyway" and I did. But they replied that it would be pushed back to October instead of July. So that sucks.

This is no secret to Chris but this thread has got me well on the way to doing the N version of this chassis to do the most elusive concept locomotive on my prototype Hickory Valley - logging Porter 0-6-4 #3.   The Toma mechanisms are just awesome on the Shapeways shays, so it's worth taking a shot at it.  I'll scratchbuild my own body (probably brass) if I can actually get the mechanism adapted to moving up the gear as tight as Chris did to clear the trailing truck.  If I get that far, I'll set up another thread.  Chris actually took the same printed frame and 'spread it' to N for me for the same concept, as the only way mine will work is to move that Toma spur gear up behind the rear driver like he did on this one.  Which is no small achievement, pun intended.   

It's testimony to the usefulness and motivation of this forum, looked at this and went ah-HAA!

Got an e-mail. That 3D printed water tower I ordered on April 10th has shipped. Almost 3 months later. Yay!

My brass parts showed up today from France. Seems when they told me the new date was 10-7-25 they really meant 7-10-25    and they were a few days early 7-7-25.

The side frames that they told me were too small came out just fine. I ordered raw brass and to me these look polished. But polished is an extra fee so no matter to me what they did. I will air erase everything before painting.



Those holes in the rear of the tank are see-thru!



This is the only place I could find where the sprue was attached/removed. I need to ask them if I can pick where that goes.



My resin parts still fit.


The only bad part is that I changed so much stuff that these parts were just tests. I want to re-send them new files. But first will air-erase a small area then prime to get a better look. I don't foresee any problems though. Will probably do the boiler in brass this time.

LOL!  Yeah, Europe, and other parts of the world write dates in DD-MM-YY(YY) format and use Military Time.  It still makes better sense to me than MM-DD-YY(YY). I remember having having similar problem interpreting dates when I first arrived in this country. Only time it was obvious was when day was >12.

Those brass parts look really good (and it was a pleasant surprise to have them arrive earlier than you anticipated).

Yeup, I get to play that game whenever I’m working with some of the folks at the German, French, and Brazil plants. Always a fun guessing game (not)! I try to always type out the month to avoid issues with it

I do not understand how Netfabb works. I make a file, open it with Netfabb and repair it. Save the repaired file. Open the repaired file with Netfabb and all the original problems are still there.

But if I open the repaired file with Chitubox there is no problem and it prints just fine.

Upload that repaired file to Sculpteo and they say it need repaired.

What a pain. I finally got it fixed in Sketchup and uploaded. Now to ask them about the sprue placement... search their site for 10min and cannot find any contact info at all.  I click contact and the page auto scrolls down to another contact button. Clicking that takes me back to the first place. A never ending loop. So I just guessed: contact@sculpteo.com
