Damn you people, now I'm considering buying a 60 LOL! Not super familiar with the differences, how much work would one need to put in to represent the EMD Demo unit? It could be interesting to have an EMD Demo unit running on my freelance, considering '85 is my cutoff date.

The demo units (phase 1) had two major features.

1.  The front windshield is angled instead of flat (no overhang with the number boards).    So someone could draw a 3D a new cab.
2.  The edges are more rounded.

-- So the dynamic brake blister is rounded (later versions is square-ish and angled).
-- And the edges on the nose and the rear end are a bit more rounded- though that is a slight feature that could possibly be ignored.

By the way.... the Demo units landed at CSX by lease  (LLP company).  Which is my interest in them.   Though CSX stripped all the cool lighting packages.

I find the LifeLike Blomberg M truck to look really wrong, on account of the extra hunk of superfluous plastic surrounding the wheel. It makes them look like they have outside brakes shoes, when they don’t.

Judging by the photos here, the recent Atlas GP-60’s have the same truck with the same flaw. Maybe I’m not the first to do this, but trimming those trucks makes a world of difference in terms of improving their appearance, and you can do it without compromising the integrity of the truck.

Stock Sideframe with...wheel guards??? Is this for carpet running?? Not really sure why they're there.... Same mold tooling components as a Blomberg B that needs outside brake hanger support maybe?

Maybe a leftover from a blomberg truck with talgo couplers at some point? Only thing I could possibly think of. Definitely odd, if I do wind up working on a Demo gp60 I'll have to make the same modification.

Thanks for the input, both of you. Looks like it could be feasable, with some help of a friend with a 3D printer. I wouldn't need perfection, but the Aero cab and corrected DBs would be musts, as well as the Espee style fancy lighting package. So... guess I'll start looking into it, and add it to the ever growing project list lol.

here are some shots of the truck Im using. The ones from the LL GP38-2s also have the brakes on the ends as well.
they have been interchangeable for years as far as i know. I've done this because I dont like how open the bottoms of the trucks are. even if they are easier to clean and maintain... outside of them picking up more crap. 
I also tend to buy locos for the silver trucks just for a swap... The Atlas trucks are a tad better at least in the sense of saving the gears from whatever.

The fuel tank on mine sits so low that it will get hung up on rail joins if there is any unevenness in the track at all. I had the same problem with the first run of Scaletrains SD40-2's, however the problem here doesn't appear to be an assembly glitch like that one was. I don't have an LL GP60 anymore, so I can't compare. But maybe they've always been this way and I just never noticed before.



Also, I was getting a lot of stalls at slow speeds, so I decided to check out the axle wipers to see if they had been blackened (ala the Atlas SD45). And sure enough, they were -



The sort of hilarious part is that they actually did burnish the blackening off of the contact side of the wipers. However, they neglected to clean out the holes wherein the axle ends seat

Cleaning the dark coating inside the bearing cups would not be easy.
So this model stills uses the original chassis and the trucks aren't wired like in many other recent Atlas releases?

Here is one of my Walthers LifeLike GP60s.  The fuel tank clears the railhead on both of mine.  It is close, like on the prototype (see my first posting in this thread).  Also mine have the same extra plastic on the trucks.
The prototype photos I posted earlier were ones I took on the old Rock Island line over 10 years ago in Chickasha OK.

I did Mark. I looked at your https://spookshow.net/loco/llgp60.html page (Atlas EMD GP60 released in 2025) and I am obviously missing something as the newest chassis shown has standard Kato-style pickup strips (the photo I linked to in my last post).
That same page also covers GP60s from  Walthers (2012), and Life Like (2012) models.  The only other GP60 there is from FVM.

Something that may have to do with a low riding fuel tank is that at least one incarnation of the original LL GP60 had massive wheels in terms of diameter (pizza cutter flanges notwithstanding). I just switched out the older wheels on one of mine with some Atlas wheels and the size difference is remarkable. Very noticeable difference in ride height.
