Well I don't really look at H0 scale stuff much and when I saw the email I thought it was a new model.  I didn't realize that it is actually re-branded BLI model (like the TRIX Big Boy).

Never mind then. It is likely cheaper bought directly from BLI in the U.S.

I had no idea Reynauld's was still around. I heard about them for 1:87 scale military vehicles years ago.

Still around and going strong!  I believe they also moved their operation few years back.  They seem to be one of the top U.S. dealers of European model RR products.  They also take consignments.

Now I'm starting to wonder if this Shay and also the Big Boy were actually produced by BLI and also sold rebadged as Trix or did Trix was the company that designed and produced both locos and BLI is selling them under their own brand?  Or maybe it is a truly joint effort from both manufacturer?

I guess another possibility is that BLI and TRIX both have their models manufactured by the same company in China and they simply decided to both sell the same model to share the profits.  After all BLI sells majority of their model production in the U.S., while Trix sells mostly in Germany and the rest of Europe, so this arrangement does not create any real competition.

That has always been my opinion too, except maybe for some large scale models that have fans synchronized with chuffing to produce more realistic smoke effect.  Those I believe use ultrasonic water atomizers not the oily smoke used in smaller scales.

I’m not sure, but I think Marklin and BLI worked together on this model, but that the electronics used are different.
