New Kato SD70MAC Announcement

New run of Kato SD70MAC's coming this fall. This run will feature Alaska and BNSF Executive schemes, along with Alaska 100th Anniversary and the BNSF "Vomit Bonnet". (I really like that scheme!)

Is it just me, or does the Alaska RR version look cheap and toylike (especially with regard to the bright yellow handrails which make them look super thick)?

On the other hand, the BNSF version looks just fine to me.

Took a look at the prototype Alaska SD70MAC and yeah, it's definitely Kato's choice of handrail color.

Doesn't Kato have a flared radiator body shell to use?  At least for the 100 year scheme.

I'd also prefer a flared set for passenger service on the regular scheme.

Something about photographing the delrin plastic sometimes makes colors look different than they may to the human eye. But only sometimes.

As far as Kato aesthetic quality... Here we go again.   :D

Kato may not be the most detailed, or the most accurate, or come with No Slip Traction TrucksĀ®, but they are my go to power. They feel just right, and they'll run forever. Plus, these days they're a bargain.

KCS inherited a bunch of these when they acquired TFM.  Many seem to have gone from being  Grey Ladies to Belle's.  maybe I need another locomotive project . . . .

Happy to be getting the exec units, they have been very hard to find for a while and usually high prices on the secondary market and still sell fast.

Really hoped the next run would have the swoosh executives,  as those are what they spent their last few years in, but at least this toolings not dead!
