Intermountain is getting ready to ship the first batch of SD40-2s as many may know.

They also had a pre production sample of a SD45 locomotive. This was an older tooling so did not have separately applied grabs etc.

The F units looked great. The DC only were nicely weighted and should be good pullers. The etched metal grills were dislodged in several samples, likely a result of being on shows.

They are still looking for a factory that would produce the cab forward and have not given up on it. Apparently, the factory is jittery about doing a steam locomotive

The Sd45 bi-centennial announced through NSE is also not too far out.

I take it that's the SD45-2 and are they molding treads in their walkways?, cause my set of SD45-2s have no walkway treads

Sorry, did not look closely enough. They said it was the older tooling, so likely not.

Did IM ever make locos without separate grabs? I only have cab units (going back to their first issue FTs) and those have separate grabs. Admittedly, I have no IMRC hood units (because they haven't made a 50s era hood unit). Did the early issue SD units have the drop grabs on the ends cast on?

The IM SD45-2 has molded on grabs at least the first run has.

I'm guessing it will have a new chassis that supports an ESU decoder and speaker (effectively a slightly longer version of their existing SD40-2 chassis).

Looks like the new run of IM SD-40-2s are loose in the wild. N Scale Supply has the new run listed on their website.

   I ordered 5 of the DC versions from N Scale Supply and I just got notice that the order was cancelled because of a high failure rate of this run. Anyone know anything about this? I have 4 more I got from a local hobby shop and they all are doing fine.

I ordered 2 of the Missouri Pacific UP colors SD40-2s with DCC and sound from Midwest Model Railroad. I have had them for about a week and they are horrible. When it runs, it's jerky like it is losing electrical contact somewhere inside the loco, eventually it will either stop running or the decoder goes comatose. Sometimes they don't run at all. Both examples do this. I just sent an email asking to return them, hopefully they will take them back.
