Santa Fe Madame Queen Build - N Scale

I'm building one of Santa Fe's 2-10-4 Steam  Locomotives, number 5000 Madame Queen.

Proto Photo:

http://m.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=3749992

I'm using Adams (draskoasshat) shell that he has designed and has available. It is has a lot of detail and is exquisite, it fits on a Concor 2-10-2 mechanism with some alterations
I'll post pictures of progress

Right now here's where it's at

Nice. What will you use for tender?

here's the tender - from Dirk, he assembled it and added the details

Here's the Concor 2-10-2 mechanism before being altered (I have removed the front pilot)

Well, not quite; although Dirk makes a great variety of tenders (I have a number of them and they are exquisite) to my knowledge he doesn't make the Madame Queen version which predates the big 20K square tanks. Similar, but not quite the same.  I was just curious to see whether Adam's shell "kit" included the tender shell as well.
Good luck with the build, looking forward to see more progress.

Oops I should have looked more closely at the tender, Adam is starting to produce some tenders. I'll continue on fitting the shell to the mechanism and get to the tender a bit later.
Thanks for the heads up

I modified the Concor 2-10-2 mechanism so the shell can drop onto it. I still have to trim the pipes going into the steam chest (cylinders).
I ground away a fair bit of metal around the motor.

I have test fitted a practice shell and it's sitting a little high. I need to work on it a bit  :D

I milled out more of the frame and got it sitting lower, however, I need to mill some more off the top of the mechanism to get it snugged down to where I'm happy with it.

So now the mechanism is about right, time to repair the Practice shell, made a repair to the walkway.

The next clip is the actual shell I'll use.

Now I have to find handrail stantions for steam, that could be an interesting experience  :D

Gold Medal Models have an etch of steam locomotive detailing parts. There are a lot of stanchions on that in a few lengths.

After quite a bit of fettling involving removing the metal that holds the motor in place and rotating the motor by 90 degrees the shell fits perfectly. I now have to make a styrene sled to fit under and support the re-oriented motor. As you can see I need to clean the mechanism thoroughly - strip down, clean and relube.
