Help needed in hiding or disguising return track

On the left is a runaround or return track that should not be close or even in the scene. How do I handle the seperation between the two tracks? It's against the wall so a scenic divider or scene block wouldn't work. If I can figure this out, the Highgrove to Box Spring, Perris, Winchester to Hemet mainline run would be great. Stumped. BTW I thought about making it a double track, but the proto has none or maybe staging against the wall.

Or... just scenic over everything but the rails. Paint them to match the scenery. Voila! Track is gone.

I'm liking that too...I also like maybe going with another scenic divider (low profile).

A row of trees with a few homes and/or business that hide the trains during the return trip.

Yep. And I think this brings the real answer: a bunch of things can combine to do what you need.

Hide the track itself scenically. Hide it even further with trees, etc...

This image shows how I did that before to good effect. Note how the loop continues behind the tree line. And those are dormant leafless trees.

Semi-arid Bryan, this is the bramble there - Highgrove to Box Springs.

Also, paint the back side of all of your equipment in camo.

Chuck,

Sorry to do this, but I feel inclined to play devil’s advocate.  If I understand your track plan, you’re doing a turnback curve to have two mainline tracks on a 12” shelf, and you’re trying to conceal one of the tracks.  Here’s some concerns:

1) Too much hidden track
2) Too little space on the remaining depth (after hiding the rear track) of the 12” shelf for reasonable scenery to get that open desert feel.  Needs moar negative space.
3) Too many towns in the length mainline that you have.  By the time you put in the passing sidings for all of those towns, you’ll feel like it’s practically a double track mainline with very short (less than train lengths) single track portions.

Sorry,
Debbie Downer
