So I have a Canon T3i Rebel with a tripod from around 2012. (don't think the tripod is tall enough) Layout height is 57" so I need a tripod
for it that can also hold a cell phone and probably extend to 67-70". Any thoughts on a purchase?

I don't know about the tripod, but you can get the cell phone holder that screws into a standard tripod for a few bucks on eBay.  They usually come on short cheap tripods.

Go here and select your height requirement on the left side on the screen to narrow the hits.  There are so many types out there and some come with the cell phone adapter.  If not, you can buy it separately as Scottl mentioned.  Even B&H has it so you don't have to place a separate order on eBay.

I bought the 60" Amazon Basics tripod for my son and it's made pretty well compared to the one it replaced.  They have one that goes to 72" but it's a different design.  With Amazon's free returns, I'd certainly give it a try.

One thing to consider is how much of the height is gained from Leg extension vs vertical adjustment.

Height gained from leg extension will lead to a larger footprint on the ground and make it more difficult to get the tripod near the layout.

You may need to set it up where you only fold out 2 legs and have the 3rd go almost straight down near the center height adjustment.... So don't get one that has those mid-leg braces that go back to the center that require all legs get extended equally.

There are a ton of these on Amaze-on.

You can ALSO get mounts to allow you to stick one of these onto the flash shoe of your SLR. I've done that on Railfan trips so I can easily use both devices.

The last cell phone mounts I bought had those included.

I recently purchased an inexpensive tripod on Amazon for $25 that extends to 62". As others have stated, cheap attachments for both cell phones, GoPros and standard 1/4" screw mounts can raise this up 4-5 inches for a few bucks more.
