Wow, it's been seemingly forever since they ran the milk cars.  Huzzah!
Now if Intermountain would re-run theirs...

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Jim Wiggin of Athearn posts regularly on Trainboard so I hit him with requests for the double shelf couplers.  Those are almost as intriguing as the cars themselves.

Would those be based on their already extra-large McHenry couplers?

It will be McHenry branded but he didn't give specifics beyond that.

I could fudge the early UTLX cars into my ~1970's game plan. Maybe.

The black UTLX cars have a built date of 3/84, which just makes my modeling era: 6/84.  Do any tank car experts know if the black cars are in “as built” paint?  There is another piece of lettering on right side that says the lining was applied in 9/84.  I am hopeful they are in as built paint since they have CAPY and LT WT data on the left side, which would have been in use in 1984.  Tank cars switched to LD LMT and LT WT data on the left side around 1987 / 1988 to coincide with the CAPY data no longer being required on freight cars.  Thanks.

Don't really have a need for acid cars but I'm curious to see what the shelf couplers will look like.

No... The Lithacote Lined LC73 Coating wasn't applied until 9-84. (according to the tank data on the right side)
And I'm suspicious of the COTS 3 square... I thought they transitioned from 2 square to 3 square in the laster 1980s..

Never-mind 1982 they switched from 2 to 3

Finally I'm in for something...
I'll grab 1 or 2 of these Acid Tanks..

And maybe a few milk reefers too!!..

Everything shows 1920s on the Athearn Site.. but would those still be running in a 1940s Mail and Express Train.. say New York Central?

I have a couple of the milk cars are they are really striking to me. I will pick of the C&NW cars I suspect.
