Yes exactly. I built one with DCC and sound but it’s too light.
What I was planning to use them for was an Athearn F59. You may or may not recall that a few years ago
@CNR5529 and I were working on a more free rolling truck design for the Athearn Bombardier cars. He ultimately did design a better truck design which allowed the F59 to reliably pull about 5 cars. Vs 2 or something dismal like that. I don’t remember, and won’t get into the details here.
Anyway I had a buddy of mine cut a groove into one wheel on each truck on the F59 so I could add a traction tire to each truck. I didn’t know you could buy universal traction tires so I used shrink tubing. It worked but was not robust. So when I saw the FP9s had traction tire axels my hope was I could do a wheel swap. Buuuut that doesn’t work. I have some spare Rapido traction tires from the -8, so I’m going to go to my buddy at some point and have him widen the grooves he cut to fit these tires.
It’s a slow moving project.
