Simple question

I have a couple ancient Con-Cor 86'ers that I want to convert the rapido trucks. I will do truck mounted couplers as I don't have the vision to drill so small.

Are the Atlas 22081 my best choice or is there a better alternative from MTL?

I've done that.  The Micro-trains options are:
1032 Roller Bearing Trucks w/ long extension couplers.
1038 Barber Roller Bearing Trucks with long extension couplers.

Both are 70T trucks.

1032 is a somewhat unusual 70T truck (Symington Gould I think)
1038 is a more common style.  I'd use this one.

By the way, the couplers will stick out well beyond the end of the car.  This sort-of approximate the length of a cushion underframe.
You might try medium extension couplers, but I think you'll find that makes the cars too close to navigate sharper radius curves.
