Good eye, @Mark5.  Accordingly to the Stewartstown RR website: "The Blue Caboose is ex-Union Pacific caboose 25623, donated by Waco Products Inc. in Baltimore, MD, and entered service in 2015. The Blue Caboose serves as a car for riders and a space for train crew. The caboose is also available for rent and great for parties!"

Yup. UP CA-9, built in 1967. It's a nice reference shot (thanks, Dave!), because broadside pix of most UP hacks in their original paint tend to obscure the underbody detail since the yellow dominates the exposure.

Aside from being an surprisingly good study of the as-built configuration, I find it interesting that the markers on the cupola are intact. A lot of these were removed, damaged, stolen or otherwise purloined in the decades since retirement.

You're welcome, Mike.  And, if you like that, you might like this caboose, which is just around the corner from my house and parked adjacent to the end of the line of the Wilmington & Western RR.  It's owned privately now and has been sitting in this spot for a couple of years now.

Oh! That looks like a CA-3 or -4. Much older, WW II vintage! I had an acquaintance (recently deceased, he was 106!) who was the drover from the factory to UP on delivery. That one is also in surprisingly good shape and managed to escape post-retirement mods. I believe the trucks on it are the original wooden-beam design.

If you need any clear pictures of this caboose, as I said, it's near home.  I can easily get close enough to take decent exterior photos without trespassing.  The last time I rode by it, it was dark, but I think the paint was showing signs of failure already.  I sure hope they are maintaining it.  The picture I took is three or four years old.

P.S. Sorry to hear about the loss of your acquaintance, but imagine what he was able to see in his lifetime.  Hope you got some good stories.

The S curve in Massey, MD, for me never disappoints for taking photos from a moving locomotive. In the background is the Wenger feed mill, which also gets rail service.

Yep. The train missed him by no more then 18 inches.
