Mystery Kit - Looking for Windows

Hey All: I picked up this built kit at a swap meet - the size and shape are perfect for the spot on the layout, but I can't figure out the manufacturer, so I can track down some windows for this building. And I really dig these industrial windows, so would want to purchase additional kits with them. Any help in solving the mystery would be appreciated.  Thanks, Joel

Looks like one of those vintage Pola/Faller kits which were later sold under Model Power brand. There were several kits based on the same "sort of modular" design.



I built the 'Little Debbie" kitbashed  building using parts of those kits. The saw-tooth-roof part of this building uses the walls you found.

I think I used parts from the (Pola) Model Power Engine Terminal, and GE Factory.




This is the specific kit your walls came from.  I guess the Model Power kit number is 2575.



Taller kit using the same parts.  Kit  number 1550.


The other building I used (the back walls).  Kit number 1601.

Not sure if any of their windows (even if the width was correct) would have an arched top like the opening in the model's wall.  But just like in real life where old mills in New England are converted into condos, the windows get replaced with standard rectangular shape windows, and the arched area simply gets filled in with some sort of a panels.  That works, but IMO the building looses its character.

Yes, these are quite handy for all sorts of kitbashing. The loss of character I mentioned is not from filling the window openings with bricks or plywood -- it is when the original windows are replaced with non-arched windows.



If the go through the trouble of replacing windows, they should use arched-top windows, but I suspect those are more expensive than standard windows and a filler piece for the arch.

I disagree. I don't think it loses any character without arch-top windows. Simulating the look of the proto example you provided would be fine, IMO. In fact, it may be a tad more interesting.

"More interesting"?  Neah.  Cheaper looking.

We will just disagree.  To me the plain rectangular retrofitted windows show that there is no more craftsmanship and attention to details as it is more difficult to produce windows with arched top.  Like many things in today's world, it windows got cheapened. It is all about maximizing profits (for the contractor renovating the building, or for the owner). We just see things differently.

There are also old homes with turrets that have curved windows (with curved glass) which follow the curvature of the wall. That was the old-world craftsmanship. Those get replaced with standard flat windows. Cheap, cheap, cheap.
