I just returned from my week long bike ride and 2321 miles later. Crestline was my first stop while headed to MI. There is no fence around the facility except where the former road leading into the yard area has a wire across it with no tell tales to spot it. Almost easy to ride right into the wire. The turntable pit is totally full or water that wasn't too bad looking. It would make for a nice size pool at 110' dia X 8' deep at least. Not much left of the roundhouse and most of the upper level is gone. I did walk the area where the S1 was stored as in the lower left corner of the enclosed photo. It was a long addition made of block attached to the last stall. With my vivid imagination I could still see S1 sitting there right in front of me. All around me where a number of engines. Plenty of Q2s, T1s, M1s, K4s etc etc and even the S2. They are long gone but in my mind still live on.
Yes I enjoy going to former rail yards and still seeing the roundhouse, turntables and the rest of the facilities even if it's my imagination.
