I don't know what you guys have been up to, but I ballasted six inches of track, then realized I hadn't painted the track!

It's a Hi Rail layout. Does it need to be ballasted?

Added some trees and got the layout closer to operating. This scene shows some vehicles on the access road where railfans and illegal dampers frequent will be adding some old tires and appliances ect to the scene. Got static grass to add and brush to add too. I'll be running trains soon as I'm almost done with the staging area.

This is one of my favorite model photos of the past year. There's just something that looks so real about the composition.

I recently made a HOn30 railbus in 3D. While working on it I had the latest Gazette sitting on the desk. The railroad modeled in the layout on the cover just happened to have this same railbus, but he models in S scale. I did an online search and found the guy. Ended up scaling my model up to S and printed him one. Then it hit me that if I can scale up I can also scale down    So here it is in N scale just to see if it would print:

This whole thing is about 1.5 inches long!

And about 10-15 years ago I tried to etch this bus in Nn3. Still had it sitting around:

Great work.  But don't you just hate trying to scratch build dormers?  Seems like you never get the angles just right. 

Nothing on the Sub of late (except JFRTM) but have done something in N Scale.

Here is a generational house I designed - after doing a floorplan, I just HAD to build it.  Three shots, front, rear, and apart.







Surely not a great build but I learned a ton in the process and  had a lot of fun as well...
Will it ever get built?  Not without the intercession of an architect and perhaps more importantly the right plot of land in the right location - locally a near impossibility, but you never know.

Technically, what's giving you fits aren't dormers they are gables - but your two dormers do have gables.

It's possible to have a dormer without a gable, by they way (e.g. a "shed dormer").

Oh, for sure!  But this was just a quick and dirty proof of concept to show folks what it might look like.  Happily, everyone involved liked it.  And the gables with windows were going to be shed dormers until I realized they would look better as gables.

Not much actual modeling for me, did pick up some bondo so I could fill the holes on this Roco combo box:

I pushed it up from under the roof to minimize roof cleanup afterwards. Next gotta file off those gigantic roof walk hole stubs.

Mark%:  I usually use Evergreen styrene rod.  I've tried filler putty, and it works, but the texture and hardness doesn't match the plastic, making it hard to get it smooth. 

I've never tried Bondo.  Does it work better than styrene rod?

Well, years ago I was recommended Squadron putty, but it had way too much shrinkage and "softness" for my taste. Bondo (#801) has little shrinkage and cures nice and hard.

On this particular model the center holes are round but the corner holes are square.

For some models, you can just cut the old "pins" off the old clunky roofwalk and insert them (with some sort of glue or cement).

Not unless we find a hilly site and can do a basement into a hill...Thinking modular in any event, plenty of craft space upstairs - module storage also.  Way early days.
