Assembly of the Bergen Laser Scale station kit is substantially complete.  It needs more weathering and I’ll be adding LED’s at some point but it’s ready to take its place on my layout.  I’ve put in just over 50 hours to this stage which includes totally replacing all the canopy supports after dropping it while trimming some of the shingle strips.  I hope it is up to Railwire standards.

Was skiing all week so not much work on the Midland.

A number of simultaneous sub-projects are underway from adding fascia (1/8" Masonite) and continuing scenery work to structure placement and additional wiring.

It has been a bit of a Hudson week for me.

My uncle is moving out of the house he has lived in for 40+ years, so has been taking down his American Flyer layout and packing things up, along with getting rid of things he doesn't want to move.  It is a little sad to see it all go, as I've spent a lot of time in my life helping him work on that layout and just running trains, and it has been one of the main influences on my love of the hobby.  He sent me one of my Dad's old AF Hudsons this past week, so I spent time breaking it down and cleaning it, as the handrails and running gear were not looking too hot.  My plan is to have it on a shelf at the base of the stairs when coming into the basement layout room.

I also have been playing around with the decoder settings in one of the Bachmann Hudsons I picked up.  It is a very nice model, but I do have some opinions on what could have been done differently to better represent a later version of the J3a.  I also really wish that the Economi had a whistle that was closer to what the NYC used.

Finally, I've been spending time working on scenery along my N scale version of the Hudson River, adding rip-rap along the shore and also filling in sculptamold around the rock outcroppings on the hill to the right.

Started on my first kitbashing project in a very long time. I was looking for a Pennsylvania G29 46’ gondola for a mid-1950s auto parts train that I am attempting to recreate car-by-car.

And to my surprise, the old Lima gondola model fits my needs with a little rework on the grabs and ladder, etc.

It is surprising what you can find in old tooling if you really look.
If I ever get it past the stripped paint stage, I’ll post it!

Thanks @hegstad1 for the freight car working session yesterday.

I won!  Oh, it was a fight, because this HO scale DCC ready Athearn GP9 fought me every step of the way.  All lights and sound effects function, and the Geep is back into one piece.

Now, it’s JFRTM-time, so I can fully break it in and speed match it to fleet standards.

Found a fun modeling project in Eastern Kentucky.  Looks like an old camp car converted to pizza service!

It's been 40 years since I did a B&O custom build, this week marked finishing up an ABA set of Life-Like FA's with paint and detail.

Wow, B&O sure played around a lot with these in a short period of time with paint details...pick a year.

They looked so out of place on my Santa Fe layout I dug out the Trunkeyville T-trak module....ahh, that's better.   And, out they go.

I made a model of the Northern Pacific's only container.  They used it to promote some new fangled intermodal service.  I used an old Model Power 20' container as a start, decaled it with some boxcar monads and printed out custom numbers.

Much of this past week has been devoted to the application of decals on my eight new Railwest woodchip cars.  These are all the decals for the left side except for the dogwood logogram which will go on after the other side is done:

If all goes well I hope to post a similar photograph of the right side next weekend . . . . .

Been working on this locomotive on and off for years now. Its actually starting to look like a steam engine. Great Western "Buffalo" class 0-6-0 saddle tank, built in its broad gauge form, circa 1890. 1:76 scale.
