Wow... When CP bought DM&E/ICE the rumor was that this was the end goal. If that was the case this is the end of a very long road.
With Keystone Xl canceled Single line oil trains from Alberta to the Gulf refineries should be a common sight.

Not a done deal at all if you look what happened with CN's attempt to buy the CSX Massena line.

Inevitable in regards to the KCS still being exempt from the STB's Merger & Acquisitions rules. So it will be a much easier merger than the previous ones.

This could prove interesting for Ferromex and a suitor come knocking.
Attempting to model a modern Southern Pacific based in 2015/2016...

:ashat:  My advice to CP would be to keep the CP red diesel paint with solid white hand rails and avoid the KCS striped hand rails.  Sad to see another railroad fall but look forward to seeing a photo of a Nafta CP/KCS/TFM locomotive lashup in the Canadian Rockies!

Took photos in Crowley, Texas, on a windy 12-02-2016 day in early afternoon near BNSF tracks.

Part of me wonders if this is partially a giant middle finger to the US Gov't for canceling the Keystone XL pipeline... Oil will still move, no matter how much people complain.

Yeah, in the Keystone pipeline that already exists.  :|

Agreed.  Reporting is that employees have already been notified they "work for" CP.  Its also more likely to get STB approval in that the two roads have precisely one connection and no competing track. Which means they don't have to sell anything off as part of any deal.

Unknown is whether UP will object - and my sense from several Facebook groups I follow on KCS is if they do, that could be the one thing that tanks this.

Luckily there are still grey ghosts roaming the system as well as the Belle's, so if this goes forward with a 2022 date to make it official we do have some time to go grab photos.  That said it will be weird in a few years to see CP and CN units switching in Baton Rouge instead of KCS and IC.

Bloomberg reporting this morning the new entity will be called Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC).  Ugh.

Yep, end-to-end merger that will cut interchange times and create a straight Mexico-U.S.-Canada line.

Ew.  BNSF is bad enough, but CPKC (cupcake?).

The whole railroad, or just the current KCS lines? For all its awkwardness, it may as well be called the Calgary Southern.  :|
