This was an enjoyable video on the history and next chapter of Amtrak’s paint schemes.  Enjoy!

One day every locomotive will be a special or heritage scheme. It's an evil plot by the model railroad companies that control the world. 🤔
I do like the Amtrak ones, though.

Well, they sure did take our Phase idea and run with it..

So we now have
Day 1
Phase 1s, 40th and 50th
Phase 2 40th
Phase 3 40th (aren't there 2 of these?)
Phase 3 Pepsi 50th
Phase 4 40th
A Phase 5 50th (to go with the rest of the Phase 5s)
A Phass 6 heritage thst doesn't match the Charger phase 6 that doest exist yet. (But the charger scheme looked cool)
But they have already developed Phase 7.

They should have done a set of 20 locos to represent the roads that formed Amtrak.

I also like the Day 1 Charger scheme.  I always liked it on the original E unit too!
I know Rapido is doing that scheme in HO (on the E unit) and I wish someone would do a decal set for N - that crazy nose striping would be tough to mask and paint.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

More paint schemes for people to complain about Kato not offering, although they seem to rerun the P42s more often than most of the rest of their North American tooling?

It's not like they are UP heritage schemes. They are the only railroad who really gets how to do heritage engines.  :D

I'll show myself out.

Technically there are three (#822-P40, #145-P42, and #406-F40PH) of the Phase IIIs 40th, but 17 of the P32AC-DMs are in the Phase IIIs paint scheme.

There are two Phase IIs P42s, #66 and #130. Granted #66 is wrecked/scrapped, and #130 replaced it. Albeit the nose stripes and  black top are different between units.

Chris

Honestly, if Kato announces the other P42s, I really hope they do #130 as well. And 822 would be nice as well, as really the difference between them is the bolted windshield windows. Something I could live with. Would literally only leave 406 as the only unit not available unless done as custom paint.

I've resisted the urge to pick up #46 before Amtrak announced all the heritage units. Passenger trains are a weakness of mine, and I'll probably end up picking them up too, as that Phase 3 Pepsi Can scheme is hot.

p42 42 Veteran unit is one my favorite, I do wish that Kato would do the ACS and F40. But yeah I will get the all the 50 Aniv unit. At this point I have more P-42 units than consist.
