Another run of Kato F7s in UP, SP, B&O and MILW later this year

It seems like the grey roof was earlier (there's some F3 sets without the trim) and by the time F7 production started they had the black roofs with the yellow trim.
The last grey units were 89 ABC and the Orange and maroon stated on f7s with the 7/50 order.

Its hard to find pictures and even harder to distinguish the black, the yellow trim is the giveaway tho.

Page 202 of Fred Hydes loco book has a color shot of 87c with a black roof (in 1961!) And a B/W shot of 89C/B/A in 1950 with a black roof (with the yellowtrim at least)
So I would guess 88A/B/C should have black roofs...

I'll keep digging, excited to get a set either way...

I be reserving some Milwaukee.  I have this photo saved, I pulled it off the Bay.  It was not dated, but I thought it was neat to see mixed with orange and maroon stripe units

Curious that they are making only a single A-B set for each roadname, instead of a pair of A-B sets - or at least an A-B set, plus a second A unit.

A Kato MILW FP7 renumbered from the 90 series to the 60 series for freight service in the late 1950's (or early 1960's?) might work as a second A for the MILW A-B sets, assuming the FP7's were renumbered and reassigned before the F7's were repainted...

Looks like one of the easiest to renumber. Number boards are pretty simple and the very small number on the rear carbody shouldn't be that hard, I think Micr Scale makes the decal set for them.

I'll be getting several of them.

Probably only as shells from the parts store.  Still that's something.  I may have to check and see how close they are to the PRR F7's

B&O 4503 was originally 243A. I guess they are trying to do this scheme:

Note that the B&O emblem on the nose is not a stencil - it appears to be a cast plate!

Beano was produced more recently than that.....the Slumbercoach included B&O!!

If you look close, I think this is the somewhat simplified B&O scheme, wherein the gray was eliminated, so it's blue above the top gold stripe.

I’m still trying to figure out the roof color dates too. It’s possible it corresponded to the August 1949 change from gray to black roofs on passenger cars.

You can certainly do this lashup using the F7B that was released with the Olympian Hiawatha.  There were no FP7 B units; they just used F7B units between the two FP7A units. 

I ordered two sets of the A/B sets; easy to change the numbers to get a 4 unit set.
