This is has been a long time coming.   Those of you at Altoona saw the start of some animation last year, but now it's finished.

The additional credit here has to be made to David K Smith, who has given me the courage to attempt to properly power and animate something that I don't think has ever been done in any scale, let alone N, and my son Steven, the audio engineer, who set up the Aurdino MP3 sound system on it.





The actual building is still ...just...barely...standing.

And if you want to see more, I recommend looking up "Drake Well Museum" on Youtube, where there's a lot of video of the restored sytem site running.

Hey, glad I was able to help, even if I didn't actually participate. Great job! Very clever. And good to see something so esoteric as this getting attention.

As an animation nerd I have to say - great job!  And good way to bring esoteric (and ingenious) old tech to light.  Hundred year old hit and miss engines go for a lot of money at restored farm equipment auctions; seems they last forever.

What's the sound? The hit-and-miss engine? I don't recall hearing it in the video (although I confess I muted most of the music).

Yeah, at least kick up the sound during the operating part!   That was recorded from the Drake Well Museum rod jerker system.   It's really distinctive, and it's also in a valley so it has a nice echo.

I saw this in its larval stage at Altoona last year.  The mechanism for one of the wells was working, and Randy was explaining both the operation of the prototype wells and how he built the model, pretty much all in one sentence.  Reminded me of James May explaining the difference between motoring with a 4 cylinder overhead cam with a manual shifter and tuning the diesel engines of a canal boat...  The technical precision of his work should come as no surprise to anyone who's seen his lumber railroad equipment.  I'm glad to see he kept to his August deadline.  I didn't do so well.

(By the way, I personally arranged for the entire COVID thing, because I knew I wouldn't have time to finish my next two TTrak modules.  Sorry about any inconvenience.)
