Wolf, those are NICE! I must admit, the tiger stripes might even be prettier than the zebras....
You’ve been a busy boy! Nice job! Love your layout, too...

I dragged out this locomotive, caboose and some road appropriate cars to run.  I had forgotten that Old and Weary's F-3s were late models.  I found the F-3 at a show in this guy's bargain box.  It was in an IM B-unit box.  I never knew that IM had done Old and Weary F-3s.  I knew that it did the FTs, I have a pair.   I am glad that Atlas did the caboose, as it looks better than my Kato with a B-mann cupola that I decalled.  The Kato cupola shattered in my fingers.  I have had that happen with a few other Kato cabooses.  The B-mann is not a bad fit, but it does look funny.

Wolf, I always love seeing your work. you have a build thread here or a website documenting it?

I want to know how he got the scenery OH-SO-RIGHT.  Even the tones on his colors and photography are just as they should be.  I have not seen many pikes at which you can look and know just what the prototype is.  If you take away his motive power, cabooses, passenger cars; items that would give away everything, still, there is no mistaking that pike for anything but 1950s Southern California SP.  You could not even mistake it for ATSF or UP.  Everything about that pike just SCREAMS SP CALIFORNIA.

I bought this on EBay, for some reason. It was basically a smelly, sticky blob With oddly short doors. Opening the box, however, was like opening a n scale time capsule

Fortunately it washed up with soap and water and looked much better. I glued Tichy door castings over the originals, built up a foundation and added a few details.  The residents are excited to finally have a latex manufacturer in town.

One old and one new project this week-

The old project is a Conrail Atlas GP40 patched out as MKT 231
http://rr-fallenflags.org/mkt/mkt231bpa.jpg

I did the patches and black wash with creamcoat craft acrylics, used Tamiya weathering master powders for the soot/dirt, and Tamiya TS-80 flat clear to seal it. By the way, that TS-80 is good stuff, the decals were applied on the flat craft paint with no gloss coat. Still need to work on the number boards, fuel tank and trucks and add more weathering to the roof.

The new project is an effort to improve an old sow's ear, the Con Cor "grain door" boxcar. The prototype was one of several series of 40' boxcars UP rebuilt to 50' boxcars with plug doors suitable for grain loading. Most of them had weird Stanray ends not available in N, but a few were rebuilt with non terminating ends like this http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2964641

Turns out the MT FMC 5077 ends are the right height, so I backed off the old Con Cor ends and replaced them with ones salvaged from an MT boxcar. A spare FVM frame will replace the Con Cor one. Next step is to finish touching up the seams and paint.

Are both cars going to be Hooker chemical cars?

Yes, but you would be free of course to paint the model in any scheme that you wish.  The second variation with the tank platform was the common one.

Two months ago I had zero ore cars. Now I have 133. There are two types, the natural ore cars and the extended top Taconite cars.

I have enough decals left over to do three more of the natural ore cars and tons of decals for the taconite cars. What should I do?

Otto,

I'm not a NYC guy either; it was painted that way when I got it (the sill is the same color as the roof).  While I like the color contrast, I really don't know if it's correct or not.  :)

Ahh, thanks, no problem. Maybe someone familiar with these can chime in. I tried to google them and got this:
:D

Ohhh, very nice! Are they all Milwaukee Road? What's the motive power for the ore drags?

You think like I do. I hate wasting decals, they are not cheap.

Yes, all Milwaukee.

I am thinking either a USRA mikado or a set of EMD FTs

SP-Wolf: Did you use a Concor shell for the starting point of your TR6b or something else? I still have a love/hate relationship with your work. I love what you do but hate that you do it better and faster than I do...
