Bachmann Heavy Mountain

I have one of these excellent-running steamers.  The one flaw seems to be the coupler at the end of the tender.  The coupler sits too low, leading to uncouplings from the consist it is pulling.  Is there a solution for this?  Is a MicroTrains coupler the answer?

Thank you for your help.

Sorry, I think this is not fixable. You should probably sell it to me.

If the coupler sits too low, you may want to remove it and file some material off the mounting area on the bottom of the tender. I don’t have any experience with the Bachmann couplers; I replace them.

Never having seen one, I can't help you, except for a question.  Is the coupler box too low, or does the coupler sag?  If it's sagging, the box cover may not be on right, which should be an easy fix.

Does your's still have the original one-piece knuckle coupler? There's not much that can go wrong with it, and mine appears to be spot on -

It's the Vanderbilt tender with the original one piece knuckle coupler.  The coupler "sagged", so I removed the coupler and its box and reattached them.  Still sagging.

I mis-spoke.  I have the long tender.

Does it still have its centering spring? That's where it gets its tension.

is there a screw holding the coupler?

The coupler sits inside of a little plastic box that clips to the tender chassis.

I sent one of these to Joe at Micro-Trains to look at. He sent it back!
Someone told me to use two different parts of a Micro-Train coupler but I can't remember which.
Will have to look it up.

Use an offset 2004 in a 2015 box. Works well on most B-mann tenders.

Kind regards,
Bill

I have the same issue with the Bachmann N&W J Class. The coupler sits below the the coupler on the MT height gauge. Can't add a photo.
