USN 50 foot door and a half steel boxcar

Never saw this before and want some now . Looks like it may have been around in the 50's decade with its style and roof walk . Any other road have these ?

Strange.  I've seen wood-sheathed cars with doors like that, but for a "modern" steel car, why not just use a wide door?

They also had 50' PS-1 box cars with the 1 1/2 doors. There cars were also unique with their 10' inside height.

Where would you see all of these military box cars actually run?  Especially the micro trains cars. I find them intriguing but would you see them running around in the Midwest?

Looks like some of the boxcars there are possibly the same as the prototype pictures. Even down to sporting roof walks in 2020.

Woah, what a wild track plan.  Those sidings look hardened.

Never having seen an ammo dump, my guess would be that the sidings have blast walls on either side.  The idea would be that, if the cars exploded, the force, and shrapnel, would go up, rather than sideways, and be less likely to threaten cars on the other sidings.

The same idea as mine explosive storage buildings, with two foot thick stone walls, and cheap corrugated iron roofs.

I remember these out at the Naval Weapons Station in Concord Ca.  There are several versions of this car, or near versions.  I've often thought about scratch building these.  I deployed with the USS Kiska for a time and when we docked at Port Chicago, Ca up the river from San Francisco they would haul long strings of these out to us.  The naval station is separated by a long hill with the bay and piers on one side and the actual storage on the other. There's a huge network of tunnels and bunkers all over the place.  I had an opportunity to ride the train and do a story for Stars and Stripes back in the late 1970's.

There is also munitions depot at Hawthorne NV. However looking at the satellite view, seems they would unload rail cars to trucks and transport to the bunkers with trucks at that location
