The collectors aren't buying them on speculation anymore as a way to fund their kids' college funds.  They're buying them because they want to collect them.  As long as that market stays strong, then MTL will have the means to keep tooling new models.

I happen to know of a forthcoming special run passenger car that will have 1 window missing... I wonder if people will still buy it
Now you tell me.....

(Please note- the following are intended as representations, not completely accurate to prototype, as close as I can get with some simple cut and paste of MT cars....and I need to fix the stripe decals that are curling at the end)

I gave up rivet counting when I couldn't see an N scale rivet anymore.

Buried in the lead of this thread is the more relevant news in that the MTL May releases have been posted:

Today, the real cost is in tooling and other machinery, not artwork.  The more cars the collectors buy, the faster the tooling is paid off.   Much of the lettering is computer-applied, so it doesn't cost much more to do 10 cars each in 20 schemes than to do 200 in one scheme.  But they're a lot more likely to sell 10 each of 20, than 200 of one, for all but the most popular roads.

Their Incentive per Diem 12 car series was GREAT.

They could make a 2nd and 3rd run. The Morning Sun Book on IPD shows the variety of these cars.

Anybody need a Tricky Dick to complete your Dead Presidents set?  I also heard somewhere that the original plan for the Thomas Kincade cars was to have the paintings on the car sides back lit.  Perhaps Shipsure could confirm.

Thank you!

That PRR X37B is a neat car. I'm tempted by that CP rail one too. That reminds me, I need to grab that PRR X56 from last month too while they're out there.

I also think the variation of the tie gon set for CSX is pretty cool too.

The MTL X37b looks like it has Greenville ends, not the 5/5 dreadnaughts they were built with.

i purchased the 12 Days of Xmas cars years ago. it is my favorite around the tree train.
i also collected some of the candy bar cars to run on the other loop.
but, my coffers of freight has quite a significant presense of MTL cars, as does my
passenger cars.
they fill a niche that i have and appreciate whatever they offer to continue their
production of rolling stock that i am interested in while being thankful for those who
support the manufacturer buying the ones they choose.

sincerely

Just looking at the graphic, I am reasonably sure it is just the MT "standard" 40' boxcar (which is to say, PS-1) with Pullman's PS-1 ends.  Lettered for an X37b.

Did something strange happen with the graphics for the WP reefer set?  In  the artwork, they look like 36' bodies on 40' underframes.

I've heard that too when they were announced back then.

That is true:  the "painter of light" car series was supposed to have the paintings backlit. When they were produced dark, I spoke to Eric Smith at the last Springfield show about what happened.  He said that they had problems with the lighting module and decided not to do it.  When I asked "how come the planet cars are lit", he said that by the time planet series came out, the problem was solved.

So, does that mean they will operate on both DCC systems AND an MRC 1300?

I can see planet rotation decoders in our future....
