Taken in Saint Paul, phone camera from the passenger seat photography in all it's glory.

We took a 50/50 gamble that the train was headed to South Saint Paul yard, but we were wrong. At least last it was a beautiful day and there's a nice park nearby, with a nice view of one of Saint Paul's swing bridges:



Now to find one of that Kato release!

The carbody immediately make you think E8/E9, but these were originally built (in Australia) as late as 1970-72 originally with an EMD 645E3. They were rebuilt by MK with a re-manufactured 645E3C in 1993.

Thanks for confirming that. Faded recollection was they were essentially SD40s under the hood carbody. 

BTW, I absolutely love your "Down Under" posts. They so much recall the ambiance of my railfanning youth in the 1960s and '70s, in the Southwest deserts here in the US. Thanks so much, and keep 'em coming!

That is a beautiful shot!
So sharp, so clear, so well lit, so rich in color! Funny that the background scenery could pass for a backdrop on a layout. 
The weather in Northeast USA has been miserable for the last few days: rainy, cold, damp, and clammy.  Seeing that picture made everything seem better!

BTW the rail height looks like (N scale) code 70 to me.

Thanks guys for your kind comments, will try an keep them coming despite being encouraged by the government to stay indoors as much as possible at the moment. The weather has been nice too - much better than the 40C days earlier in the year.

Australian railweights are a tad pathetic when compared to the US. If it means anything this particular track (which is a major interstate corridor) is rated at 21-tonne axle load @ 115km/h or 23-25TAL @ 80km/h.

Great pic Wes! CL Class (definitely not an E8/9!) the last locos built with EMD "bulldog" noses (ca 1970-1972) - always liked these.
