New ESU LokPilot 5 family (non-sound)

ESU has announced their new LokPilot 5 series of motor / function decoders, which are fully compatible with their LokSound 5 sound decoders, released last year. Primarily, the major changes from the LokPilot V4 series mimic all the new functionality introduced in the LokSound 5 decoders: true Full Throttle support, multiple brakes,  different acceleration/deceleration factors for DCC vs multi-protocol decoders, etc.  To me, the biggest positive change is the ability to implement the Independent Brake functions, which were missing (due to memory issues) in the V4 LokPilots.

The other big change, for those of us in the smaller scales, is the size!  The new LokPilot 5 Micro, LokPilot 5 Micro DCC and LokPilot 5 Fx Micro DCC come in two sizes:

• Wired version (either 6 or 8 pin NMRA connectors): 8mm x 7mm x 2.9mm thick
• Next18 or PluX16 connector: 13mm x 9.2mm (no thickness mentioned)

The small / wired ones, which are the same size as the previously released LokPilot Nano Standard, have 4 powered functions (F0(F), F0(R), Aux1, Aux2) and 2 logic outputs (Aux3, Aux4).   The Next18/PluX16 have two additional powered functions (Aux5, Aux6).

The latest version of the LokProgrammer software, 5.0.11, has support for these new decoders.  Have not seen any shipping date info on them.

Back in 2018 I purchased 5 Nano's from sbs4dcc and they were/are great.  For those that want to really squeeze the wired versions in, there is a height discrepency to be noted.

However, the Nov. 2016 esu manual shows 2.4mm thick for the Nano Standard, 1/2 mm thinner.

Per esu website: "The LokPilot 5 micro DCC is the "twin" of the LokPilot 5 micro. With just 8.0mm x 7.0mm and a thickness of only 2.4mm (on the capacitor: 2.9mm)," 

Looks like just a bump in the middle.

Just received my first batch of the LokPilot 5 Micro DCC decoders (p/n 59826 - 6 pin, which will come off). There are 11 wires coming off this itsy bitsy teeny weeny decoder.




All pads have wires: red/black track pair; orange/grey motor; white/yellow F/R headlights; blue U+; Green Aux1; violet Aux2; pink Aux3 logic (also PowerPak control); teal Aux4 logic.  There is an solder pad with no wire, next to Aux2, for Ground

For size comparison, a LokSound 5 Micro DCC is shown next to it. The LokPilot is about the same depth as the wire conector adapter on the LokSound!

There doesn’t appear to be one, yet. The 5 is pretty similar to the V4, so that manual should do, and the German one is fine for figures showing pad layout.

All the LOkPilot 5 family support the same features as the LokSound  5 family.

The Nano standards do not support the Full Throttle features. But the new LP 5 Micros are the same size as the Nano

Awesome! Thanks! This will allow me too finally add some ESU decoders to some older locos, with close to zero room, that will run with my drive-hold-equipped locos. The older "nano" was a bit of a stumbling block.

Since there isn't a manual in English yet, what settings/CVs would one need to set for them to have the delayed movement like what the LokSounds do? I want to pair up my sound and non sound STs.

I will be programming/installing one in the morning, so I will take some screen shots (Decoder Pro and LokProgrammer) to highlight the items. If you use a Windows PC, I highly recommend downloading the LokProgrammer software (free from ESU) and you can explore all the settings and see which CVs are involved.

In LokProgrammer, under Driving Characteristics, at bottom of tab: 
[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Notice that there are two check boxes, although they are labeled the same. You need to have bit 2 of CV124 set (first check box), and then set the delay in the second area (CV252)

In Decoder Pro, this is found on the Sound tab  at the bottom of the page

Only the amount of delay is displayed (CV252), at least in this release of DPro,  so the CV124 setting needs to set manually.

Thank you! I knew about Virtual Drive, but had never used it. These are first units I’ve used LokPilots.
