Welp... Glad I finished my GP40-2LW before this was announced. But now 95% of people who see it won't know it's not the Atlas GP40-2W

I'm kind of curious about why they went with the W over the LW since the LW would have used their current mechanism and the W would need a new chassis with smaller fuel tank.

Will this mean we finally get short tank versions of the GP38-2?

Pan Am and Guilford GP40-2Ws being released just before the Amherst show in Springfield, Massachusetts. Good timing on Atlas' part! I don't model any time past 1990 but I will look for these when I'm puttering around the show.

I assume it's so they can do the GO GP40-2W. IMO, there's no other reason not to do the GP40-2L, since there were 233 (all CN) built vs 46 GP40-2W (35 CN, 11 GO). Am I annoyed at this? No, I was expecting this given they did the -2W in HO. Will Athearn do a GP40-2L in N as they did in HO (and a GP38-2W)? Probably not.

Incidentally, the last order for CN units were delivered with the standard frame after an accident involving a -2L saw the frame bend at the rear of the cab, trapping the crew inside for hours. This is explains the otherwise inexplicable model change.

I see that Conrail is included in the PS4427 release.  Alas, I have no idea why Atlas chose the road numbers they did.  Hey @Atlas Paul look for Covered Hopper Class CL15A on the Conrail Historical Society web site.  These are the ex LV Bethlehem built clones of the PS 4427 car.  They are are a much better choice than the cars chosen for the artwork.  The artwork car numbers are from a number series for ex EL class CE16B PS 4740 covered hoppers.  Thanks.

Flat cars with pipe loads for me. I wonder if the loads will be available separately? If they are I'll buy the other road numbers without the loads and add them myself.
