$75 cars? Will they sell?

Really? Street price on the new run of Atlas trash flats with containers is $74.99. $51.99 discount price listed at a dealer some on here are now familiar with that usually has low prices. Containers alone run $18.99 at the discount price, so $33 is the price of the 89 foot flat if my math is correct.

Will our market support this price for these types of cars? I thought $45 was getting up there for retail on the articulated auto racks, but $75 for a re run of existing tooling? Although the trash containers sold out PDQ, a number of roads on the trash flats are lingering in discount land on several websites, still available despite reductions in price to the $14-$19 range.

I'm very curious to find out if Paul Graf can shed some light on the factors that went into the pricing of the new run of trash flats. A couple other new runs posted for reservations with the same dealer, and they did not see the same increase in prices.

Little out of my price range, even if its a common car in my area. I'll stick to my fleet of 40' and 50' boxcars for everything.

I heard that the cars were cast from gold to maximize their weight for better tracking.  :D

Well gold wheels should never tarnish or oxidize.  Hurray!  No more wheel cleaning!   :D

Price increase is likely due to increased factory costs and maybe some anticipated T word costs..

If people are willing to pay it.......

I wanted a few GN cars to fill out my 10 car BN passenger train.
.. I ended up with 21 Empire Builder cars.

If prices keep ramping up to this degree, perhaps it will eventually become cost effective to relocate manufacturing back to the US. I am more than a bit dubious about supporting an antogonistic communist regime with my purchases :x

Well, the flatcars are 27.95 MSRP.  One assumes the other $47 is for the containers.
Except, apparently, it isn't.  They have sets of 4 trash containers listed at pre-order MSRP of $26.95  https://shop.atlasrr.com/c-657-n148.aspx

So, from what I can see on their page, if you order the flats and containers separately, the total is 54.90 MSRP.

I am actually wondering if maybe the numbers were transposed, and the 74.95 is supposed to be 47.95.  except people paid the higher price (???)

I must be missing something.  I did just get a flu shot, and I am therefore a little under the weather....

tOops. sorry, I see the 27.95 (trash flats with no load) I noted above are listed as "in stock" as opposed to pre-order, so would be an earlier run.  But still...

The earlier runs would have cost close to that if they were offered as the combined item.

Instead of whingeing about prices, why don't people tell us how they would go about making them cheaper.

And if you know how to make things cheaper here;s your chance to put Atlas (and others) out of business.

Go-on, entertain us, I love a good laugh.

I watch Exactrail bulkhead flats and LBF 60' excess height boxcars go north of $60, so theirs people out that that will pay it.
