Walthers had some of their new residences on hand.

Interestingly, Walthers also had a number of small layouts on hand, emphasizing you could store them under a bed and such, and guess what scale they were?!!!

I find it interesting that everyone does the EL scheme, but no one will touch the Orange/Brown Conrail scheme..
Except Con-Cor doing the GPS Scheme years ago.

This group of Fox Valley containers are from the "old" Deluxe Innovations container tooling.  You can even read "DELUXE" on the bottom of the 20-ft container in the photo posted by milw156.

Interesting indeed.  There is ample photographic material available on The CRHS website to create artwork if FVM ever decides to do a CR model.  I would take whatever they produced.  Thanks.

Around a decade ago, Deluxe Innovations containers were the best containers you can buy in N scale. But now with the detail quality we get from JTC, Atlas and ScaleTrains (and possibly even Athearn) containers, the old pinless Deluxe boxes are kind of crude going into the 2020s.

You can always add your own magnets and pins to the older containers, and place them in the bottom of the well.

I certainly wouldn't call them crude, and guarantee they won't cost $10-12 a container like Atlas or JTC.

I wish someone got to ask about the FVM/IM Dash-9 I wonder if it was put on hiatus after the ST versions showed up.

You could throw the Tier 4 GEVO into that mix too. I’d be surprised if they actually run them. ST has done 2-3 runs in both HO and N scale since both announced them. Yes I realize the factory issue, but after owning five of STs Tier 4s and now a pair of Dash 9s with three more on order. I would be hard pressed to order IMs version. I don’t know they would be all that different other than hopefully road numbers.

I asked the folks at JTC if they would be making a retrofit kit for Deluxe containers and they explained it was not possible because Deluxe made their shells thicker than other manufacturers' containers, so a replacement floor with pins wouldn't be of any use. They did say they might be releasing magnet-only sets in the future. I'm tired of using that "container glue" putty though, and the lack of silver handle detail on the old DIs bugs me. At least they have good resale value. I'm gradually selling off my DIs once I see the JTC equivalents hit the market.

It is really easy to add pins and magnets to the Deluxe containers.  You only need two pins at opposite corners of the container to keep the container from slipping while the train is moving. 

Eventually I hope to have somewhat more refined versions of the spec sheets shown below available as pdf downloads on the N Scale Vehicle Associations Resource page.





Because the Rolland Industries containers have magnets on the floor and under the roof of the containers, and those magnets are aligned north pole up, I always align the magnets I install with the north pole up.  If you don't have any Rolland Industries containers, than the alignment of the magnets does not matter.
