September 19 ESMC Boxcar Arrival

@bbussey tell me about the recent X58, X65 and X72s that just hit my favorite hobby shop.

I know each car is done from photos. Can you tell us about which photos and when the cars were spotted?

I know I should basically get all of them, but sometimes one needs to prioritize... lol

I would not wait too long, as certain cars are almost sold out at that certain online hobby shop.  I just pulled the trigger on all CR, PC and P&LE releases.  That ate up just about all of my hobby money for the year.  But that's OK, as I have been anxiously awaiting this release.  Cannot wait to get them.  Thanks.

Shoot, I forgot to post the announcement here. Things have been hectic with family issues, not much free time the last month or so.

Ed, since you have access to see the cars at your favorite hobby shop, the photo dates are on the box label. I have the locations documented, but as part of the reference photo file name rather than in the database, so it would take some time to gather all of that given that some of the artwork was done up to two years ago. Suffice to say that all of them (except for the WP cars) were photographed in the mid-Atlantic states. The WP reference cars were photographed in the west circa 1980.

We will look into adding the photo reference data to the large catalog photo pages on the website. That’s the easiest place to place them, after adding the required fields to the item-release master file in the database and modifying the web page generation program.

Glad to hear the cars are moving quickly. They will place a restock purchase order if demand warrants. Hopefully the trucks and wheels are moving as well.

I got the X65 Conrail car before they sold out as well as a PC X72 and a pair of trucks for evaluation. These kind of came out of the blue and was my third purchase from MBK in a week.

Now that these are out, hopefully the next Conrail centric run will be announced soon!

I stocked up on the crazy ones and the big wheel.

I'll probably end up with the rest over time.

Will definitely keep my eyes open for when a "as delivered" x72 is announced. Good looking models!

The two PC cars with the small heralds are as-delivered. The PC X72A and the two WP cars have been shopped.

Except for the post 1974 consolidated stencils and post 1978 U1 wheel inspection dots...

Small details I know but based on your past products I imagine you will eventually make one (hopefully multiple) with a single panel cots and without the U1 dot... 😊

Edit: like so

As with most new releases lately, seems I missed the boat on these. Anyone know of any shops that still have a decent selection of these in stock (that hopefully also discount a bit)?

Check our dealer page for your favorite retailer or the retailer closest to you, and contact them.  If they are out of stock or didn't order – we still have sufficient stock on everything, so your retailer just has to place an order.

A somewhat lukewarm review of the X72 box car on another site:
https://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?threads/esm-x72-boxcar-true-to-the-prototype-but-a-disappointment.128066/
Major gripes seem to be that the jewel case is too big and difficult to open and that the wheelset flanges are too shallow.

Geeee, the jewel box is too large.  I'll make a note to the factory that the jewel boxes need retooling.

Sigh... This reviewer is what's wrong with N scale...

@bbussey I enjoy all of my ESM models and hope to get more. Despite the clearly inferior jewel box design
Don't you know that's what matters, not that true to prototype crap that most people don't know or care about...

Better make those wheel flanges bigger also to cope with his (assumed) crappy track work.
