Reading 1076xx XMa boxcars

An online source said that the Reading had no PS-1 40 ft boxcars.  On the other hand, a side view of #107653 online seems to show PS ends.

Were these PS-1s, or did the RDG have them built with ends from PS, or is it just a trick of the photo angle?

Thank you.  So I will assume they did NOT have PS ends, and the photo just makes it look like they did.  These are the cars the CDS dry transfer sets are made for.

I do wonder about one line on the XMa PDF:
number    built      retired/reclassed       notes
107653   8-  -48   11- 9-62                became  C&O 29215

That's the car RRPictureArchives shows, in 1973, ACI label and all, reweighed RDG 3-71, still XMa, so it had to remain on the Reading until at least 1973.

Based on the photographic evidence, I'd go with that C&O citation being wrong.

It's a proprietary Acf end, the model railroad term is Dartnaught. Unfortunately they are not avaliable in N scale, although you could create a close enough end by carving the smaller darts off a dreadnought end...

That's not quite the same end I don't think.  I'm looking for a good shot but not finding much.

Ah so its the earlier version (the IDE equivilant)

Yarmouth model works makes both versions in HO.  (insert sigh  )

They refer to it as a "acf corregated end" , and call the later version a "acf carbuilders end" ...

Ryan:  Thank you!  I don't remember ever seeing, or hearing about, those ends.  As far as I know the GN and NP didn't have any of them.  From the side they do look like a PS-1 end, although the differences are obvious in the end view.

I think I'll stick with Intermountains regular Dreadnaught ends - carving all of those little pieces off looks like a real pain, especially for something most people will never notice.

Mark5:  That was my thought as well, so I'll go ahead and letter my car.
