Just saw Matt posted on Facebook that he is now selling undecorated kits via the online store.  I'm glad I decided to curb my addiction for awhile or I'd be in trouble.  :scared:

Oh I need more projects like a hole in the head... but what a deal. Thanks for the heads-up!

EDIT: Ordered a quartet of beer cars. I don't recall ever seeing anyone (IM, RC, WoT) doing the PC&F 62-footers in "my" road (original UP), but they apparently had a few of them with the 10'6" doors. It would be nice to have a relatively simple paint project for a change.  :facepalm:

Wish more companies would do this. The Intermountain part kits are good after work projects.

Ah. Couldn't find a reference to it in my quick search, so thank you. But that is a slightly later scheme than what I'm after. It is possible that earlier cars had the big "Automated Railway" map, but if not, then the yellow and silver with the "Union Pacific Railroad" (3 line) medallion, the map being too difficult because of the external ribs. Still trying to find photo authority for BI-90-x series cars earlier than 1971.

Keep in mind that the earliest versions of the Pc&f prototypes that Red Caboose chose date from 1977, so any earlier scheme then that would be at best a stand in...

It appears the scheme RC chose is based on UP class BI-100-9 from 1974. Not sure how close they match the later cars built for the coors train...

Stand-in is fine, as it's really close if there are differences. I found a pic of a BI-90-4 on display in Council Bluffs with a "new" date in 1969; in comparison to the picture of the undec shell nothing jumped out at me as seriously "off". Can't use it as an authority, however, since it was a museum piece I suspect repainted by UP or UP employees volunteering for the display, they had to toe the company line to using the post-1970 logo, and the question of the map remains. UPHS journals seem to be devoid of BI-90 photos, so if you have references to point me to, it would be appreciated.

Ordered some 5 bay Ortners for a Holly Sugar project...I was looking for a source for inexpensive undecs so this is perfect.

A few differences to the RC model but I would paint one up and run it with my head held high...

It seems like UP had alot of "pretty close" insulated cars in the 1970s would be nice to have a reference of them all...

The UP freight car book is on my shopping list but I'm not sure what it's cutoff date is...
