Cool idea, or craptastic?

LOL.  My optivsors fit on my head like a baseball cap, i.e. no contact on my face per se, and I can make them as snug as I want.

At that price, it isn't going to have good quality lenses.  I'll stick to my Optivisors (with glass lenses).
You can get lights for an Optivisor if that's the appealing part.

Get good quality reading glasses and just get a couple pair that work well at your normal modeling distances.
I find I seldom use an optivisor anymore as it is more restrictive of light.

I've got a 3.25 and 3.75X pair.

...and you can double those up, put on both pair, one over the other.   I still use an optivisor but have done this in the past and also when I'm away from my tools.  Grab the spare pair and put them on too.

This. Optivisors give me a major headache from eye strain, and reading glasses have been the ideal solution for me. Plus, they're even cheaper than Optivisors or those craptastic gadgets.

For reading glasses, due to the headache issue, I use "bi-focal" with the upper just plain, no magnification.  This is due to having good distance vision but when running machine tools, needing something with full coverage.  The only time the bi-focals as well as the opti-visor are a problem is when working under something where I have to see close up while looking up.  I have some regular reading glasses for that purpose but seldom need them.

I have the same problem working under layouts and in boat engine compartments.  To solve my problem, I fashioned a paperclip into a hanger for the bridge of my glasses, so that I can suspend them from my forehead light harness at a proper elevation to look through the bottom of my lenses when looking upward at what I need to see.  Crude, but it has been effective.  I can just lift up the glasses with one hand to hook or unhook them from the harness, so switching between normal and close-up up is no sweat.

I'm a self-described Optivisor addict, and thankfully no headaches.  If you are not headache prone, I  highly recommend spending the  extra bucks on the "real" Optivisor.

When I visit friend's layout and forget my Optivisor, I hate using his cheap version of a headband magnifier.  It really is craptastic!

Interesting. While I'm not exactly in love with my 5X Optivisor - limited field of view gets me in trouble during complex operations - I don't know what I'd do without it now. I installed the 10X loupe attachment but found it useless and in the way; the only reason it's still on the visor is I now can't find the little plastic rivet it replaced.

I have a pair of (too-expensive) prescription readers that give me a headache within about 15 seconds. At +3.75 they were way too strong, focused too close yet still not usable for modeling, so I'm ignoring my opticians' reader prescription now. My normal eyewear for modeling, reading, computer and whatever are 2.00X readers. Two months after cataract replacement I'm back to 20/20 uncorrected for mid and distance.

The OP's headset very much reminds me of the similar arrangement my childhood dentist used, a headband with suspended flip-down binocular magnifier. The concept evidently works for some, but my last encounter with those cheap one-piece molded lenses was not good, with lots of distortion. Bottom line... given my penchant for trying things out, for twenty bucks it might be worth exploring but I would be prepared to relegate it to the growing yard-sale heap.
