On the far right hand upper part of the post, just left of the word "Quote", there is an upward facing arrow with a number adjacent to it.
Click on the arrow.

Once you've voted, the arrow turns (and stays) green.



Having said all of this, being a new member, you may have a minimum number of posts to make before you get to vote. Uncertain about this; Peteski? Mods?

Or you could always  write +1 if you don't care about a points system. Some here feel you they should only upvote something that furthers the modeling community i.e. a picture of an impressive piece of modeling you've someone accomplished, a how to post, or progress on your  someone's personal layout.

Yeah, I feel that since those points are called "respect", not "popularity" or "likey, likey" or "thumbs up" (this is *NOT* Facebook)< they should be given if someone feels that the person deserves respect for their post.

But of course, most members use them like they would the "like" button on FB.  Oh well.  renaming the points to something different than "respect" would make sense.

I'm not sure when a new member can start giving them out. Probably the same rule as for other things applies (25 posts?). The new member restrictions are listed in a sticky post in the FAQ section.

@tom mann @John ?  Do you know when new member can start casting respect points?  Once I know, I'll add it to the FAQ.

I've been paying attention to which of my posts get upvotes.  They seem to fall into 3 categories:

1.  I post information someone finds helpful.   
2. I post an example of my modeling or a prototype photo I took that someone appreciates.
3. I post a bad joke that someone appreciates. 

#3 happens far too often.  I'm glad someone likes my bad jokes, but I don't think they deserve the same recognition that categories #1 and #2 do.

Exactly, the respect rating is used like Facebook "likes" are used.  But it is what it is.  Too bad it can't be renamed to "popularity" or something similar.

Thanks to everyone for replying.  I don't see anything other than current score next to the quote icon.  With only 5 posts I think @DKS's comment about minimum number must be the reason.  I need to contribute more.

Hmmm.  I always thought that (regardless of whether some online forum has a respect point system or not), a "+1" simply meant that one agreed with the contents of the previous (or quoted) post.
