finally figured out the forbidden 403 result

it would appear that anytime and/or everytime to click on one of the emoji (or more than one) to include in a post or a PM
it results in the forbidden 403 page
not sure why
but then i have seldom tried to use the emojis
not a problem, as i do not need to use any
just wanted to note my discovery

Gary, when the problem occurs, are you using graphic (WYSIWYG), or plain text editor?  If you click on one of the emoji pictures over the editor window (to add it into your post), does it show up in your text as a picture (same as the emoji button you clicked) or as plain text characters representing the emoji?

If they show up as little pictures then you are using the graphic editor.  Toggle your view to the text editor by clicking on  button (right side above the text window).  That should solve the problem.

There seems to be a bug in the forum software when using the graphic editor. We discussed this in https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=46244.msg607797#msg607797 and inf few posts following that one.

Well, I encountered almost exactly the opposite problem here last night.  I was composing a long-ish post with photos (but no emojis) using the vanilla text-based editor on TRW, like I've done many times before.  When I tried to preview it, or just outright post it, I hit the 403 wall.  Then I tried putting the editor into wysiwyg mode, thinking it could not possibly help, and I could preview and post the entry just fine.  During the time I was trying to post that entry, I was previewing and sending PM's in vanilla text mode just fine, so it wasn't a system-wide, time-local problem.

Go figure.

Certain word combinations in plain text mode will also result in 403 errors.   

For one such example see https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=46244.30

Another forum I frequent (it uses different forum software) has a similar problem.  From what I learned there is that certain word combinations appear like hacking attempts, so the forum blocks those messages (with 403 or 404 errors).  It is unfortunate that we live in a world where everything has to be made so secure that it interferes with usability.
