And a happy "Victoria Day's Eve" to you to Richie...thanks for remembering us North of the 49th! (Well actually I guess it is Victoria's Day's Eve of the Eve of the Eve as VDay is Monday. :) )

this week I started assembling a very distinctive retaining wall modelled on one that separates the CPR mainline through town from Nelson City center above it.

Ah, if I only had the energy to redesign it I would change a few things.  As it stands it looks like I will be gluing back on about 15% of the post ends that broke off in assembly.  I guess I know how I will be spending any hobby time this weekend!

I posted this "teaser" photo a few weeks ago.  This was a freebie that I picked up at the Decatur, IL train show last fall.  It's an HO Walthers White Tower restaurant that sat on my workbench for a few months while I waited for it to reveal the N scale structure that lived within it.



First I cut off everything below the windows.



Then I started filling in below the upper windows and blanking out the right end with Evergreen styrene.





What emerged was a freelanced CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) Bus Garage.  The CTA has a repair facility on Kedzie Avenue in Chicago but I'm sure that it is MUCH larger.  Thanks to Peteski for the custom decals which fit the sign lines molded into the building perfectly.










There is some interior detail and lighting is Woodland Scenic Just Plug stick-on warm white LEDs.

Are those buildings of the photo variety, a la Mindheim? Nice look.

They are printed paper models from a company called “Radical Flats” that unfortunately no longer seems to be a going concern.

Workin on the wye some more.   I decided to add "J Street" in along the edge there. Here's the mock-up to see if a few houses would fit.  Cramped, but it'll do.  Oh, and I got a new train!  8)

Work starts by clearing out the old.  Pretty easy for this one since there wasn't much to begin with.

I'm also experimenting with EVA foam sheets as the roads and curbs. I started with a whole sheet, then built up the curbs.  Ground foam and static grass will build up the yards to proper levels, as the grout has done on the railroad side.

After a few failed attempts at making driveway easements, I said screw it, I'll 3D print it!  They turned out excellent!

Here's where it sits. I like it so far, but I'm debating whether to cut the foam to make individual slabs for the sidewalk and driveways, or just score them later.  Or, after seeing the 3D print, maybe I 3D print the all sidewalk and driveway parts...  and curbs...    :scared:

Painting the concrete ties on double Kato Unitrack.
Tedious, but I take long breaks (like, a day) between sessions. Small layout, just a 6' T-Track table, so I think I'll finish before my sanity is gone. I'm using a 0 brush and jet black acrylic paint. A touch-up pass will follow the one shown.
