Looking through some of the locomotive assignment docs, it looks like the GR&I didn't get assigned M1s. The utility freight engines in Michigan were the N2sa USRA Santa Fe type or the H10s Consolidation for many years. But that is not the same as saying M1s never turned a wheel in the state - there is probably a picture somewhere as there always seems to be with the PRR. But they would have been infrequent visitors.
