All these crawlers are making me wish I modelled a slightly earlier era. Orange in such a wonderful color. Maybe I should be modelling the Milwaukee with all their orange locomotives...

In keeping with the theme....  but I went with yellow for 1965. Mounted on a WOT flat with repainted deck. Still working on blocking and tie downs.

Thank Y'all, for the guidance about the tracks. What a difference.  They look much better with the tracks painted, for freshly delivered dozers

While all the crawlers are nice, I think what sets these off is the silver edges on the " teeth " of the tracks.  Even if painted orange from factory, after a short distance of rolling off the assembly line, the paint would be gone and you'd see bare metal.  Well done !

That critter is a 12-15 ton Mack loco. There were 2 engine inside so those vents might have been the "smoke stacks", but on the roof looks like the radiators.

That is a nice flatcar and load.  Is that the factory supplied deck with the WOT flatcar?  Just weathered?  Looks really good compared to the stock unaltered deck.

Thanks! Yes, it’s the stock deck. It pops off rather easily. I sanded it down a little, airbrushed the bolster details black, then brush painted the wood bits various shades of Tamiya tans and grays. This was followed with a wash of Tamiya panel line black and some chalk weathering.

Those AC tractors as sweet.  I need one for a flat car load too.

I finished weathering the most recent batch of rolling stock this week.  Here's one of the Fine N Scale X31A.  Although I'm not a big PRR fan, I've grown to both like these cars and appreciate the Fine N Scale model.  The weathered black hue kind of washes out in these photos.  A product of the lighting I think.


Here's a train show find.  For $5 I got an opportunity to rehab a poorly assembled IM box car.  There's a certain satisfaction that comes from bringing a model back from the scrap heap.  I marked out the AUTOMOBILE lettering and the white stripe on the door to make it a general service box car as it might have appeared by my early 60's layout time frame.


The finished IM single sheathed war emergency box car with my "improvements"  I'm happy with how it turned out.


Another FNS X31A in the double door version.  The instruction sheet said the DT&I had some.  Without knowing what the prototype looked like and having just purchased Tichey decals at Timonium, I took a shot and decided to use them.  I REALLY like the Tichey decals.  The fact that so much of the Tichey stock fits my era is a big bonus.


Onward with the AC&Y fleet.  A lowly flat car.  Red Caboose model.  It wants a tractor load.


I think my weathering campaign is up to 70+ cars now.  A good use of my time away from the layout.

It's taken way too long, but my Nn3 version of the Climax A 18-ton is available.

This cross-kits the Kato shorty with the Rokuhan shorty and a 25:1 gearhead motor to pull it off.

I've always had a soft spot for flatcar equipment loads. You guy's work is amazing! To me, that blocking adds that extra layer of detail to completely tie it all together. While surfing around Google, I came across this picture of an H-21 loaded and secured for export. A little bit different, but could add a bit of interesting variation.
