There is a very interesting private car trip coming up this summer..... https://www.BroadwayLimited1949.com

Three original 1949 Broadway Limited cars are running New York to Pittsburgh and back. 63 public tickets are available. See the website for details!

Is the observation car Frank Thomson really an original 1949 Broadway Limited car?
IIRC, the BL observation cars were named either Mountain View or Tower View.

@Point353 your correct and also none of these cars where for the 49 Broadway.

But it's still awesome to have a trip with 3 PRR cars!

So, let me get this straight - 3 Pennsy smooth sides, right? What will be pulling this?

(or will it be "tacked" on to the end of an Amtrak train?)

Thanks!

Judging by the schedule, it will be tacked on the end of the Amtrak Pennsylvanian.
If you watch it go by on the Horseshoe Curve webcam, you'll see other private varnish cars on the end of it every so often.
Sometimes, a second Genesis loco will be added to handle the longer consist.

Didn't Amtrak stop pulling private cars?  I recall lamenting that here back when they announced it.

Supposedly, Amtrak stopped operating special/extra movements beyond their regularly scheduled trains, such as those for the AAPRCO.
Private cars are still being handled, but with new restrictions and at higher rates.
Amtrak was concerned about the handling of private cars adversely affecting train schedules, so now they will only be carried on specific trains and added to/removed from those trains at a limited number of locations.
For example, you could request to have your Peteski Palace car conveyed from Boston to Washington, but if you wanted it switched out of the train at Baltimore (to attend the Timonium train show, for instance) then that request would not be accommodated.

Ah, so the situation is not as grim as originally expected.  But for now Peteski's Palace is firmly planted in a fixed location.  :D

The Broadway Limited trip in July has announced its all-authentic PRR menu, comprised entirely of original Broadway menu items from 1949 to 1967. The menu is available at https://www.BroadwayLimited1949.com/menu.

Passengers also receive an exclusive discount on a reprint of the PRR's original 1947 cookbook, containing all of the recipes that will be used on the train.

There are still a handful of tickets left on this trip - book today or miss out!

[Yawn] Let me know when they do a Capitol Limited to Pittsburgh from Balto or DC, via Sand Patch.  And it better have a dome car.
