CRRNJ, neglected road?

Sometime in the '70's, my best friend Dave and I went railfanning to Elizabeth, on the NE corridor. We went down to the CNJ station, with that beautiful tower. Caught an RDC set to E'port and back.

Was the line across the Newark Bay bridge to Bayonne still in service at that time?

There are probably many of us that feel that "my road, the ____ is neglected". Seeing all these offerings makes me a little jealous.

That said, as a kid I always loved seeing CNJ rolling stock, with that cool Statue of Liberty logo.

We used to ride "The Scoot" as they called The RDC's  from Elizabeth to E' port and then Bayonne. The bridge (cool and massive) was still intact then. Seeing around the back side of the CNJ E'port shops was amazing. There were some MRS1's stored there for a while.

Intermountain also made Reading FP7s:

............which fetch high prices on FeePay when one appears.  In fact, I am amazed at what the Bev-Bel/Life-Like Reading Company FP-7s will fetch on FeePay.  The LL FP-7s were pretty good for their time, but, they have l long since been superseded.

Yeah, I should have said I asked Intermountain to do the Tangerine/Blue scheme F3's    I painted some years ago but didn't like the tangerine color I used so I never finished them.  The curve above the cab is fun!  I actually printed the decals for Rich's F3's.

I have a few of the Reading FP7's.  The color of the green stripe on the FT's was very good to my eye.  The FP7's green was a little too light but not bad.  The Microscale decals are just too dark green.  Need to work on some Alps decals and do my own.

It wasn't  a sexy road. Of all the roads that were in my area the CNJ was kind of lost in the shuffle.  It wasnt like the EL with it`s handsome paint scheme fighting the Pocono Mountains. Or the blue collar hard working lines like the Reading and the Lehigh Valley feeding Bethlehem steel.. Or the charm that the L&HR had.  The ex LNE lines it served were pretty cool until they left Pennsylvania.

It got some character when the red baron or Coast Guard paint scheme came around, but that was late. I`m guilty of it too.  In the hundreds of pieces of rolling stock I own there might be 2 CNJ cars and zero locomotives..

Wonder why Atlas did the recent run of SD35 in CNJ?  I bought one, but only because it has so few markings, I could patch or erase them and use it on my switching layout as a lease unit.

Do recall having a CNJ SW7 Lionel as a kid, my Dad probably bought it in 1956 or so.  It was our back up loco if and when the NYC Hudson stopped working (or we wanted to run a different diesel than our Texas Special passenger train)  We lived in NYC at the time. I always thought Dad cheaped out buying a Texas road on sale, but read in CTT a few years back the Texas Special was the featured set in 195? when he bought it for my older brother.  And, bought other NY area locos.  Stopped buying when we moved to Chicago, but we still kept playing with that old set until they gave it away to younger cousins......definitely without our permission! 

Just to finish the story, I was upset (still) enough about it at my mothers funeral that I asked the cousin if they still had the goods.  Turns out they kept it until after college, but an apartment roommate stole it, apparently to sell it for drugs.....Oh well, it was a happy story from my youth if I just forget the latter history of my childhood CNJ SW7 and its friends.

Until Atlas issued its shorty passenger cars, the only CNJ passenger cars that I ever saw in N were the C-C Blue Comet set.  I never saw any of those cars individually, just in the set with the USRA heavy Pacific(?).  I did not see it often.

The observation is a scrunched up version of an actual CNJ car, two of which still exist.

There was a guy on FeePay who sold CNJ passenger car decals in newer and older fonts.  They were for coaches and club cars, but no head end cars.  The head end cars are more useful to me than anything.  I have been looking for something that would work on CNJ baggage cars.
