Note the item number on the (93801 old, 93810 new) boxes is also different.  Design revisions perhaps?

@MK what is the number on your box?

Uh oh!  Until John asked, I didn't go down to the basement to look for the box.  It looks like there is an intermediate version with the OLD box and the NEW design!  Mine has the old item number with the styrofoam cradle but Thomas is of the newer desing (less the coreless motor).  But the box is *almost* the same.  The top portion is slightly different.

Yes, I did mention that in my write-up.

The faces are different as the newer was updated to the current look of Thomas.  The CGI version of Thomas is different than the models from previous seasons.

Attempting to model a modern Southern Pacific based in 2015/2016...

Also, I have a passenger train addiction...

That makes sense (even if the difference is fairly subtle).  I did hear about the show changing from physical models to CGI. I'm not an avid watcher of the program - I just like to play with little model trains.  :)

Did you squeeze the face out to get them apart?

Yeah, creepy.  Gives a whole new definition of the “slinky effect”.

Ed, if you changed the gray color to brown, that would be something I would expect from @chicken45  :  Mr. Thomas Hanky!   :scared:

You have been hanging around with him too much!

OTOH, this kind of posts is why I like to hang around TRW!  8)

Here's a Clerihew about Ed. K.

Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
But mention his law
and you've pulled your last straw!

Alternate version:
Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."

I got all 3 of the latest release for the grandkids.  Thomas and Percy run ok, but James does not run well at all.  Very noisy and jerky.  When I opened him up, he has a very small motor compared to Thomas.  He may have a gear mesh problem.  That would account for the jerkiness and noise.  I haven't had a chance to really try and track it down.
