The Coca Cola and Dad's Root Beer trucks have a newly tooled beverage bed, just like the ones I remember from the 1950s.

Whatever happened to their tooling for mid 50s Fords and Chevy's?  Seems like for the last several years, all they produce are the 53 Ford wagon, 50 Dodge (or Plymouth and Desoto variants) and 59 Ford (that last too late for my layout but they do look good).  If I go back 10 years, there was a lot more variety in late 40s through late 50s automobile models.  Seems like lately they are just focused on painting as many schemes as possible on trucks, but we could sure use more variation there too.  You can only use so many 1954 IH R-190s.  Is this one of those copyright/licensing things with the auto companies?

Those Santa Fe trailers (N 51179) look hot!
Advertised as 1940'-60's 32' AeroVans. Does anyone know whether that timeframe is accurate, for both the trailers and the paint scheme? When did that scheme first came to being?

Otto, from the ATSF Painting and lettering Guide, I think this is early 1950s scheme (per the QStation link below, from 1948).  I don't know if these trailers ran as piggybacks, or were just used "locally" for pick up and delivery of LCL.  The scheme changed in 1955 to the larger "Santa Fe" of earlier CMW releases (which was used in piggyback service).  As to the trailer- again, I can't say with any certainty whether they were 32' aerovans, but compare to the photo above on whether they are "close enough".  I think they are close enough for me, and I will assume that some trailers did not get re-painted until after my 1956 timeframe.

I was about to pull the trigger and order several of the Dads and Coke trucks....but I took a look at real photos, and I think those soda cases are much larger than they should be.

Just pretend that those are 2 liter bottles, and that they were introduced back in the '40s. 

Didn't Showcase Miniatures produce a beverage truck with bottle crates scaled correctly?
Another idea is to extract the oversize crates and have properly scaled ones 3D printed in either clear or clear green resin.  @Mark W ?

The crates remind me of the ones orchards use to ship apples in bulk.

Wasn't this brand sold off to somebody other than CMW? But kept the name? So when did they bring out these 1954 tractor-trailer sets?

Yes, they are now part of Round2 - company which is re-popping many vintage plastic model kits from MPC, AMT, and some others.  I think they also own Johnny Lighting diecast models and maybe even few more brands.

So even thought the beverage trucks are new tool, they still have those not-so-good wheels?
I'm also wondering if they used photos of H0 vehicles, and that's why those wheels look so good.
