By popular demand, Kato USA has announced a provisional pre-order for a new production run of both the recently released N Scale SD70ACe #1943 “the Spirit” locomotive, as well as the N Scale SD70ACe #4141 “George Bush Presidential Library and Museum”. Both of these units will be available to order in DC/DCC/DCC w/ Sound. Submit your reservation to your local hobby shop no later than Monday, January 7th, 2019.

Please note that this is a provisional preorder. If our total order quantities do not meet a certain minimum by the end of the January 7th deadline, we reserve the right to cancel any of these projects! So it is imperative that you put in your reservations in ASAP.

Interesting to see Kato jumping on the "reservations" bandwagon (where cancellation is an option) used by few other manufacturers.

There is some guy on Facebook all pissin’ and moaning ecause a second run will kill the value of his original run. Like Kato owes him anything on the secondary value of his purchases. Silly crap.

Those poor folks who paid $300+ on eBay for Bush 4141 now that there is a chance that Kato is making another run.

Not much different than Lowell Smith NP coaches that I just bought a MT one for a third of the price.

By the same token, I wish Trainworx would re-run some of thee truck offerings.  They were pricey when new, and now the prices are totally unreasonable!  :|

Semi unrelated but I can’t help but roll my eyes at people who try to “collect” for value. LEGO began reissuing older sets which pissed off tons of these collectors. I say good; if there is demand it’s great to see companies respond. RIP. Don’t have the extra money for another display piece but I liked the scheme on these!

The unfortunate reality of it is, the novelty will quickly pass.  If not for this announcement, I'd expect a few sets could have gone for 4 figures over the coming days.  That's borderline gouging if you ask me.
There's a part of me that wonders if Kato has any intention of meeting the minimum numbers and following through, making this announcement only to protect the sentimental collector who will find much more reasonable on the current supply as this period of high demand fades.

That being said, today was a significant event, and everyone who wants a piece for their collection deserves to have one.  This is a win-win whether a second production is made or not.

Final note: coverage of the event never showed the veterans unit/train.  It was rumored UP 1943 would lead the second train, following the casket train, and bring additional guests to the burial.

Ha! The 1943 was never used, sitting in Spring yard all day!   The trailer was nose headlight SD70ACE in standard flag paint.

1943 was never used.   The pilot train had two yellow units.

I just preorder 4141. I had it and sold it a few years ago but see it today made me feel sorry I got rid of it. Now I need Kato to re run the heritage units specially the CNW unit.

That some of the train, but it has the wrong baggage car, Council Bluff was instead of Promotory.
