Athearn PS 4427 Covered Hopper

Athearn has announced new tooling for a PS 4427 covered hopper.  http://www.athearn.com/newsletter/113018/07_N-scale_PS_4427_Hopper_113018.pdf

It looks like they will have six road numbers for eight different paint schemes, but doesn't Micro-Trains already make this body style?    :o

I for one would like to see a Trinity 4750 so I can quit using the InterMountain PS 4750 as a stand-in.   :?

Yes, Train-Worx does as well.

Cool. I've been hoping for more releases (so many roadnames/schemes!)

Jason,

Oh my, I forgot about the Trainworx version.  http://www.train-worx.com/page228.html#buttons1-1n0

And Trainworx is showing most of the road numbers as still in stock.

Obviously not a model that I am in great need of.   ;)

Wish they would have done the low-side.  ExactRail isn't exactly pumping them out.

Heck, I have a handful of the Walthers low-side models that I am trying to figure out what to do with, as well as a supportive purchase number of the ExactRail schemes that I may end up repainting, since ER has decided to not release the leased schemes, which I'm more interested in.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Yes, ERail seems to have parked their 4427 and most of their other N tooling ...

Three of these on the market is a little much, would have liked to see some 1970"s 60' Hy cubes or a tankcar from that era. This looks to be risky for them, we may be hearing more of the "N doesn't sell"

I for one like this release. Except for one little tiny thing..
The Mcboxingglove couplers.....BOOOO
A release such as this could force manufacturers to look at their own LO's... Either can them or improve them.

I will take about 8 cars from this batch.

Y'all talk about how we already have this model,,,I say..more the better. Who needs all the coal hoppers..DI,,IMRC,RC,ATLAS,MDC. The list goes on, I swear if I hear or see the words " coal porter" one more time I am going to lose it!!

I am Wyatt and I approve this message

I would LOVE it if they would follow up this release with the PS-2CD 4427 Covered Hopper low side hopper!  The ExactRail ones are getting harder to come by and I could use a boat load of Santa Fe ones.

Since IIRC, Athearn owns McHenry, I would not expect those to be replaced in their N scale releases anytime soon.  Also, with Bachman, and now Scale Trains, making similarly sized and operating couplers, I think that the N scale couplers are heading in the wrong direction, Unfortunately  . . .

Maybe it is just me, but I don't think the McHenry is that much bigger than an MTL coupler, they are much smaller than the Bachmann coupler.

Also, this is an odd model as there are already two high hip 4427s on the market

I guess the shape and apparent size of the coupler can be somewhat subjective. Long time ago (when McHenries were first introduced to N scale), to show my disappointment in them back then I did a comparison to other coupler on the Atlas Forum. It also included a lively debate. Unfortunately it is gone. I think I have local copy - I should post it here (and include few more couplers introduced since that time).   One of these days . . .  Hmmm . . . I wonder if the Wayback machine has a copy of the Atlas forum?

+1 on both points - the model recommendations (early 70s please) and the possible outcome.

Wish they would have made a GATC covered hopper that nobody else makes.
